Mercedes W15

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Is this a vanity panel or just some aero fairing track-specific update?

They made spqce to put DAS mechanism back in.

Very cheeky of them.

On a serious note, did they raise the area below the halo mount, or did they maybe drop the area all around it?

Kimi is small so maybe theyre getting ready for him by improving visibility.

To fit the aircon unit for driver comfort ?

More seriously, can't remember how recently they used the jagged "plexi" screen that appeared to break surface airflow on it's approach to driver area.

Wonder if it's a replacement for something like that.

Looks like they raised the bodywork, you can see there is more space between the steering wheel and the bodywork, also more of the steering wheel rod is visible

i think merc engineers should ditch the floor upgrade and focus on sidepod upgrade like overbite on ferrari/mclaren etc

won't this 'elevated' portion where nose meets cockpit, interfere with the line of sight of the driver ? Driver's eyes are barely a little bit above the steering, and even a few mm change here can hide things like painted lines on tarmac, any debris to be avoided etc. There must be some aero benefit otherwise no one would do this, but has it gone too far, compromising the driver's vision ?
Honestly, this is stupid if the drivers have to learn to adopt to different visual cues in their field of vision.
