I think Hamilton is on a ran setup. He's usually closer to the redbulls in qualifying.

Let's hope so. Maybe he'll speak about it in the interviews. Come on raymondu :D

Wishful thinking. His top speed is in line with his team mate and the Ferraris, whilst he was not particularly quick in sector 2.

If anything, it is the Red Bulls who have gone for a wet setup - they are significantly slower than the top runners in the speed traps.

+1

he was very coy in his BBC interview after Q3 ...I didn't do a good job , jenson showed there was more in the car etc

we shall see

I tend to agree that the RBR are the ones who will benefit in the rain. Here's tomorrow's expected weather map at 1300, the dark purple represents 1.5 inches in 3 hours:

No need to wait for tomorow's results:

CONGRATULATIONS to Red Bull Racing and Seb Vettel for one of the most dominant season-long performances ever. (Please note: "one of the most" NOT "the most.")

SHAME on McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes, and Renault for allowing themselves to be so utterly dominated. Seldom have WDC and WCC been decided so early. Although RBR did NOT win every race, the ultimate outcome was decided very early in the season.

We can but hope for some closer competition next year.

Thank you very much raymondu!

Hamilton doesn't mention anything about wet setup at all (he isn't asked though). He was either not fast enough in quali or keeping his cards close to his chest. Looks like the former though; we shall see tomorrow.

Cheers mate. Just as a matter of interest - what TV channel do you watch F1 in? Not BBC I take it...

In other news; it's not much, but speed traps are probably as close as we can get to seeing who's on wet/dry setup; at least amongst teammates (as we can derive who's on higher/lower wing, and on a wet/dry setup.

From the Turkish channel. There is only one guy doing the whole thing (presenting/commentating), he is doing a nice job. There are some other guys at the studio but they factor in only before/after the session/race. But obviously you don't get features like this which is missed (well, at least i do).

I also appreciate the posting of the interviews. We get the BBC feed here in Canada, but the local sports broadcaster here cuts the broadcasts right after the press conferences. Heck, they don't even show the press conferences after qualifying. So I try to take in all the F1 related information on the internet that I can find haha ;)

Whitmarsh said in it >

"We geared both our cars with the probability of a wet race in mind, in fact."

That's gearing, but what about ride height and other suspension settings? Hamilton mentioned a 50/50 setup, while Button has only said he doesn't want it to rain.

I think Button is going for an intermediate setup and Hamilton wet. Notice that Hamilton had to take 2 laps to warm up his tyres. I think this had to be done because in a wet setup, you set the camber and other settings to heat the tyres up rapidly. Qualifying in the dry on the wet setup, to prevent the tyres from overheating the driver has to gradually ease in the heat in the tyres by doing slow laps before the final run.

This contradicts my post above.. heheh.. but you never know.
Q: While the weather forecast tomorrow is for rain, have you chosen the set-up of your car only for qualifying or also thinking about 71 laps for tomorrow?

SV: To be honest with you, I think a typical rain set-up doesn’t exist any more. The big difference is that you put on different tyres. Car-wise, there isn’t much you can do. Generally if it’s wet, you put on more downforce if anything but car-wise, from the set-up point of view, it’s more or less the same as in the dry.

JB: I think that the set-up we’ve taken this weekend is a set-up that helps us in the wet, and it’s not been done on purpose, it’s just the way it is for us around here. Yeah, as Seb said, there’s not a big difference. You don’t really have a massive change to the car for wet conditions but there are small things.

I think that's an effect of low rev limits. The cars are at terminal velocity a lot anyways in the dry so you don't really gear them shorter for the wet.
