McLaren MP4-28 (pre-launch speculation)

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

in the picture going from left to right theres the MP4-25, MP4-27 and my mix and of MP4-25,27, i'd like to see them evolve the basic shape of the 27 but with the 25's packaging a little smaller and a tighter gearbox as both the 25 and 27 has quite wide packaging in that area.
Looks like a relative realistic prediction, although I think it's not possible to make the sidepods that small. Also you forgot the new front wing mclaren used in the last 2 races :p.

That's around a fourth the sidepods are shrinked on that picture. On an already heavily tight packaged car that isn't going to happen, except if McLaren suddenly find a ground breaking alternative for the radiators.

Don't get me wrong: they will probably shrink a bit, but never that much.

Your eyes are deceiving them, having just measured the image, the "new" ones are only about 10% smaller. Even that may be a bit optimistic though.

Yeah I over shrunk the side pods and couldn't be bothered to resize them for the 10th time lol. The outside edge was sposed to be in line with the floor so that they are brought in a little but not as extreme as in the picture. But you get the general idea lol

Yeah of course; your picture shows what generally will be the biggest development area's: sidepods and exhausts. I also think we will see changes in the rear wing, having a bigger flap due DRS being largely limited now.

omnicorse.it article about the MP4-28:

http://www.omnicorse.it/magazine/24051/ ... po-ferrari

http://translate.google.de/translate?sl ... ri&act=url

high nose
front pull-rod
diffuser in Lotus-style (what style is this?)
side pods intakes will stay the same with a flow conditioner but the raditor layout will allow a lower and smoother side pod end regarding the transition to the coke bottle to allow better a coanda effect
Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.

I would like to know where all these rumors comes from.

There is absolutely no ground to base it on, and are purely rumors, which are great, if they have at least some base, this is just; 'oh this was new last year and the car was pretty great, so this will be on every car next year'. Just randomly saying things will be on the car.

I should start my own blog, doing the exact same thing, if I am wrong, oh well, nobody notices. But if I am right, then I am an hero, who has all the knowledge in the world, etc. etc. etc. And I have more chance of that latter if I state something obvious like 'high nose' or 'the same sidepod intakes'

I have nothing against rumors, but these are just random guesses.

Ha ha, these rumors are mild compared to last year's mercury suspension, delta wings, side entry air intakes and channel pods.

The Lotus diffuser side channel exits laterally instead of backwards, effectively extending the diffuser maximum width.

Or perhaps some pre-launch speculation. Which I'd call in line with the thread title.

A higher nose is actually very likely due the path mclaren has already chosen.

I expect to see it on several cars.
Honda!
