I hope this one wasn't already posted. Talk about driver's safety. The car is driven for the footage only without aero cover, but it was no protection, since in those days it was usually made of thin aluminum or fiberglass with no protective structure at all.

Whenever I see videos from that era, when the only refined part of the car was its fuel, what's most impressive to me is that the drivers were able to somehow fit into their coveralls despite the massive balls required to drive the cars.

1968
During the 1968 Grand Prix season new forces emerged in Formula 1. Jackie Stewart and Tyrrell started winning, as did the McLaren team.

The 1968 motor racing season started on a high for Team Lotus, with Jim Clark winning in South Africa, but by the time of the Monaco Grand Prix the team had lost two drivers. Clark died at Hockenheim and Mike Spence was killed during practice for the Indy 500. Graham Hill lifted spirits with victory in Spain and hoped to continue his excellent runs of results around the streets of Monte Carlo.

1969..
After several incidents in which wings, struts, or the suspension (to which they were attached) collapsed, wings were banned from Monaco 1969. They were reintroduced later in the season but were to be restricted in size and height, and attached directly to the chassis in a fixed position.

1969 also saw a brief resurgence of interest in four wheel drive following a number of wet races the previous year. Four such cars were entered for the British Grand Prix, and Johnny Servoz-Gavin became the one and only driver to score a point with a 4WD, finishing sixth with the Matra MS84 at the Canadian Grand Prix. Wide tyres and downforce quickly proved to be superior means of increasing grip, and the technology was largely abandoned,

Translation from the 1977 video with Bruno Giacomelli (Mc Laren M-23)

When would you quit racing, Lauda ?
When I run out of that terrible willpower.

Andretti, what is racing for you ?
It's a sickness, a distinguishing marks. I'm happy only when I get in my car.

And (what is racing for) you, Teddy Mayer ?
A challenge.

Are you afraid Niki ?
Never.

What make you happy ? Peterson
To win.

Brian (?) Redman, why don't you ever laugh ?
I have no time to have fun, just one mistake and I'm dead.
