Mercedes W16

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

That`s just a trick of the light(imo), the Merc nose isn`t shaped like that.

Wow.. Merc's RW is the flexiest of all!
That's Ferrari 2022 level of torsion on that RW assembly

What's caught my eye, is how the engine cover (using the cover fin as reference) is also moving in frame in relation to the camera mounted on the roll hoop. It's almost like the rear half of the car is squatting backwards in relation to the camera which is fixed on the roll hoop.
I don't see that same phenomenon on the other cars.

Apologies for the crude capture.

The rear wing flexing is one thing. But I think it has to do more with how that rear-suspension is squatting. I think Merc seen a benefit on how the pull-rod functions, maybe the reason why they designed their current push-rod at a less “acute angle” vs the other teams.

Look at how the rear suspension is operating, I believe that needs the most attention.

I think their front wing is even more extreme to be honest. It's probably the first time I notice the flex from an offboard view.

Does anyone know why Merc chose to not invest in rear wings?

I just seen the Mercedes wing and it looks like a new version with a much slimmer profile. Sorry, I don't know how to post images on here.
