i still think the wing heights and tyre dimensions of the cars in 1992 were better though. post imola 1994 the cars definitely got a lot uglier as a result of regulation changes and have been on a downward slope ever since until this season.

In my "investigation" of SF70H sidepods I have stumbled upon some interesting stuff on other cars as well, and this suggests that there are some changes in flow structures in front of the sidepod inlets. Different teams address this are differently and I have gathered my thoughts (previously stated on this great forum in car threads) in a two-part article:

What do you guys think, is this a new trend, an upcoming evolution? Or is Ferrari simply making a one-of like 2011 McLaren...

The FIA have updated the 2017 technical regs on the 9th of March 2017

They have reworked the whole bodywork section with a change to more recognisable terminology and lots of diagrams showing constrained zones. It's worth having a copy at hand I think.

Thanks for the link, this is a great update to the technical regulations document, lots of diagrams in chapter 3 now!

Would this be possible with the current regs for the shrak fins? Would it be beneficial to reduce the side wind impact but still retain the good characteristic of the regular fin?

That's interesting! Yes I believe this will be legal. It might be beneficial, but not inmediately in the way you think. Basically this allows for cooling outlet gills on the back.

That's interesting! Yes I believe this will be legal. It might be beneficial, but not inmediately in the way you think. Basically this allows for cooling outlet gills on the back.
Would those cooling outlet gills be able to direct the hot air to the rear wing or monkey seat in some way?

Sends too much dirty air at the rear wing. Hence the new Merc/Williams solutions with the chimneys out of the top and the T-wings lofting the hot air clear of the wing.

Which car would drive best in dirty air? A car with low or high rake?
