I don't think so if they wanted to McLaren could have a nose like the others they have deliberately gone for a long flat nose.

My bet would be the illusion. Pay attention that there is a quite big 'standing up part' of the sidepod in the middle, which you see completely for the one on the right in the pic, but not for the left one, similar for the downward curves at the outer edge.

Uhm. It's a top-down picture showing where the sidepod covers go on the car, thus helping one-o-6's suggestion that the side pod cover looks big due to the angle of the picture.
