Renault Power Unit Hardware & Software

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

The lead time is simply how long it takes to create the longest part, this is a fixed constraint that will not change.

If you are making 200 engines you aren't going to be making one at a time... you probably don't need the first and the last one to be ready on the same day either.

Mercedes qualification mode is probably 50 hp and more stronger then rest on the grid. This back uphill is also on 800 m above the sea level. So the power deficit is more visibile. But, rain should spice the race, and engine drivebility could be crucial.

And compare that to the 30-something engines Porsche build for McLaren-TAG in the mid-eighties for 4 seasons of racing and you'll get why we need these engine limitations.

The Renault intake plenum between 6:44 and 6:55 https://youtu.be/PR5Nn3Grv7M?t=403
Are the variable length trumpets placed inside the plenum which has just two exits to the cylinders, or are they inside the collectors underneath :-k

I take what he says with a pinch of salt. He will say anything he is told by Marko and Horner without much of his own thoughts.

When it comes to guessing horsepower I would put much more credence to driver opinions of more experienced drivers, like alonso or kimi, who have been around and understand different cars over the many changes that have took place over their tenure. They would better rationalize what they are told and what they can see on the track.

Not saying Max is too dumb to know or decipher, but i doubt his opinion will be based on his own estimation and experience from the track. He is just going to regurgitate what Horner tells him to believe; and Horner can tell him foolishness so long as it fits an agenda.

50hp could be right, and also wrong, we wont really know this year.
For Sure!!

None of the drvers on the grid could not how the true power of the PU, and know how much is that power comperd to competition.

I guess engineers using gps and tons of other track data telling the drivers what the deficit is is unheard of and impossible.

Just because the engineers know what the accurate data is does not mean that is what is released to the public, especially on such an emotive subject. What do the people that make their own engines say about them?

Max is lying because the 50hp was the estimate from Monaco. The 37kW that Christian horner flouted. The engine has been heavily upgraded since then.
