The coverage SUCKED as well, and the commentators were useless (to stay polite to the American members here).

In fairness, it wasn't just the commentators. Why had they not checked the mic for the guy at the top of the hill? His mic failed more than it worked. Why did they only have one mic for the two people on the start line and why didn't the two discuss who was going to hold the shared mic before they went live? Most importantly, why did they not have live timing available to the commentators? I don't think I've ever seen an event where the commentators are sat in a sea of people whooping, hugging, shaking hands and not knowing what the result was. Then they cut to an ad break. Why didn't someone from the production crew walk over to the Peugeot team and ask what the time was? Why didn't they have the live timing website on that laptop on the desk? Or even Twitter to follow someone who might know? I found out the time from a guy in central England who I've never met before the guys sat at the start line surrounded by staff from the winning team knew the result.

Yea that was quite awful to watch. I guess it will be tough at Red Bull when they discuss the spectators' opinion. At least we can expect better coverage next year if there is any.

The guy is a legend. I cannot wait to see onboard camera and proper coverage of his run, but afraid of Red Bull's touch to the videos where they change camera every 1 second with useless angles.

What do you think guys about his time, can it be beaten? I am sure it can, but I reserve the judgment after seeing the onboard, although if he said he went to the limit, I think it will be difficult to beat. The only way might be an Indy Car, boosted F3000 or even F1 car maybe. In an interview Loeb said that the car was pulling 1.5g in corners, something that many other cars can do better!

I don't think it can be beaten unless you undertake a similar effort as Peugeot did. The 208 T16 is a rocket ship with above F1 performance on a hill climb. 695 hp for a 675 kg car is F1 standard, but you actually accelerate faster on the hill because the tubo engine has superior traction by using all four wheels to push the car, which F1 will not do. The car was 100% LMP1 engine technology with zero restrictions on the special chassis. It requires a works team with the technology and experience of Le Mans LMP1 to repeat or beat that performance and then you will have to find a competent driver preferably with rally experience who is prepared to risk his life like Loeb did for this one off. I would say that Porsche might be able to do it in some years with a guy like Kubica or Webber and a $30m budget.

I would guess it falls in the next year or two. There is no such thing as a perfect run up the hill. I am sure he made a few mistakes. The car isn't that hard to improve upon.

The coverage has always been terrible. Keep in mind this is not a circuit race with cameras every where.

I am sure it can be beaten. It only requires a more "professional" effort to do so. Current privateers at Pikes Peak can in no way match a professional effort like Peugeot Sport.

But the PEugeot effort was still limited, in shape of the car. It was largely based on the 208 road car, and retained its shape. Imagine a purpose built car that isnt limited by shape because of it's road car equivalent. I am sure it can go much quicker

All douse engineers gadgets, engineers dreams come true. Astonishing car! Real "porn" of racing. Magnezium rims, sequential gearbox, TC, all electronic computing power, hydraulic dampers/suspension... Le mans (2000 mm wing from winning 908 TDI racer), WRC (knowledge how to set the car and kinematics geometry), DTM (chassis design and carbon fittings) and F1 technology (rims, gearbox) all in the one car. I m really stunned and impressed!

Fuel tank capacity is 40 L for 20 km. So consumption is probably around 180 L/h. Monster power with F1 consumption.

Where did the v6 originate from? Is it one of their production engines heavily tuned?

EDIT: It says in that article that it is endurance racing derived, does that mean the stillborn 90x was a petrol v6 turbo?

Engine was taken from Pescarolo LeMans car (during the 2001-2005 period). At that time it had about 650bhp. Fuel consumption at Pikes Peak during the initial tests was more than 100l/100km, they just managed to reach this value during the last week.

The altitude reading in the onboard video is useless, why did they include it?? Also at 13'' you can see the idiots running in front of the car. You also see how many spectators were REALLY close to the road, which is something that needs to be looked at. Red Bull and all the stupid fuss around the race meant that lots of idiots turned out to the event, and we will end up probably in few years with concrete barriers all around, no spectators except in specific area with grandstands, etc. Time will tell, but I recon if not a bad accident, the organization will do something about that. Finally, at some point you can see his heart bpm at 188. Do you really believe that number? Sounds really high to me.
