I think Charlie is someone at Mclaren trying to cover their mistake of posting it on the official page. Zak wont be happy with High Def Charlie.

You can see in that picture the sides pods start further back a la RBR. Be nice if it were true!

This is just getting sad at this point.
was good whilst it lasted
At least you're famous now:
A discussion on the f1technical.net message board regarding speculation for the MCL34 naturally turned attention to this development.

However, board user charliesmithhd claimed to have come up with the rendering, which is claimed to have been posted on a McLaren fanpage and then deleted, leading to the speculation.

Next, a call from Zak
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

That’s what seperates news sites from clickbait sites... gpfans/blog are all about the clicks so it doesn’t matter if it’s right, in fact wrong is better -> twice as many clicks since they can now clickbait the correction.

The sponsors will probably not add that much anyway. More sponsors will probably result in less money from the shareholders.

This is probably true. Worth remembering they will also collect around $10m in extra column 2 prize money compared to what they did after the 2017 season.

Well, if they're serious about returning to the top within the next 5 years, the shareholders have to show consistent financial commitment, which on paper, should be 2019-2020, before the budget cap kicks in. The gap to the top is huge, unsurprisingly. Red Bull have kept up with the top 2 as a customer because of their financial muscle. Even if more money comes in, I hope the shareholders keep it flowing from their end. Mclaren are not just fighting an uphill task against the manufacturers, but also against the smaller teams around them. Racing point will get a financial boost from their new owners, while Haas, STR, and Sauber are B teams, maxing out on listed parts.

They will, there is not much wrong with McLaren's budget anyway. In 2012 they had one of the highest budgets with 200 million euro's I believe. These days Mercedes and Ferrari are spending nearly 400 million. There is no way that McLaren will close that gap, even with sponsors, because it's a much smaller company. Renault already said that they won't be expanding because of the budget cap that might get introduced and I suspect the same goes for McLaren. So I wouldn't worry too much. The only thing is that the car looks a bit bland, although I don't understand why they don't put the McLaren logo on the rear cover. I also expect that teams won't be allowed to buy parts when the budget cap get's introduced, because it will actually give them an advantage since they get 'cheap' parts and use the rest of the money for development.

With less than a month to go until the launch of the #MCL34, go behind the scenes and find out how we're getting set for the 2019 season.

The work conducted by the team’s aero department has been handed over to the design office and production team to bring countless hours of windtunnel and CFD analysis to fruition.

The MCL34 chassis is currently getting its splash of colour in the paint shop ahead of launch. The design of this year’s livery began in earnest in July of last year, before the MCL33 had even turned a wheel in front of home crowds at the British Grand Prix.

Last year’s livery harked back to the team’s roots, drawing its inspiration directly from the team’s iconic papaya orange colour scheme which McLaren first raced in Formula 1 in 1968. A nod to the past, with a focus firmly on the future. It was brave, and a hit with fans who had clamoured for its return. This year’s livery will once again deliver in those terms, building on the equity of the brand colours which have been synonymous with success across Formula 1, Indy 500 and the Can-Am series.

What do the 2018 Italian Grand Prix and McLaren’s 2019 logistics have in common? Monza’s temple of speed was the stage for a meeting to review lessons learned from 2018 and set out improvements for this season. What could be done better and more efficiently? What needed modifying or reconfiguring?

The transport team is also hard at work collecting and delivering components for the MCL34 throughout Europe.

“We cannot give fans much in the way of clues, but we always try to set ourselves apart from the rest of the grid. We’ll be making a bold statement this year. Things are going to get colourful.”

I hope the "colourfulness" will come from top line sponsorship.

Yeah and not some weird combo of orange and blue.

On the website, under technology partners McLarens lists Vive (HTC Corporation) and Oneplus (Oppo electronics). Not only strange to have them as technology partners (which would imply that there is a deal for tech and a bit of cash, but not too much) but more so that Oppo and HTC are direct competitors...

Well, that's why Vive is on the list and not HTC.

Regarding the 2019 livery .. If you look at the style of the numbers they tweeted out I reckon we're going to see a Papaya and Blue colour scheme with some kind of pattern in it that matches the style of the numbers. Those numbers are pretty distinctive. McLaren mentioned being bold and colourful and no other team has so far gone with that kind of hexagonal tile futuristic look in recent years (I think Arrows did one back in the nineties). And it would be nice to see a team doing something a bit different. Liveries are a way to stand out but lately they all the teams seem to be playing it a bit safe.
