Ferrari F2012

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Indeed, and people are entertaining this notion.

The regulations are pretty tight concerning the floor. A flat bottom as a matter of fact... There is only so much you can do with it.

go at 0:30...is it just me or did the driver(i cant tell who it is) have to lift off in the middle of the corner as the car tried to slide?

edit: that said, i think the car looked faster than the others..

Rory Byrne may have designed a very old concept...it was a double floor, however the lower section was curved and hollow which with air going under the car went into this void and pushed the vehicle lower but once again its pure speculation...
If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari.

Has this W-duct concept been discussed here? I wonder if it's legal and if this version would cause instability in corners since the load on the wing could suddenly shift.

Edit: should've posted this in aero sector instead of F2012 topic. Maybe someone with more aero knowledge could start a topic on this?

Let's hope it doesn't get too hot or someone might get Byrned... heck you chould even Fry some eggs on it...

I can only imagine this rumor has come from some poor literal translation of those two names.

Leaving it to the pros takes away most of the fun of disussing, without taking it too seriously.

Very strange he's lifting mid corner possibly to correct under steer.

First of all the heated floor only will heat the air a minimal amount, it does not blow anything uless the EBD, blowing 800+ degrees exhaust gasses in this area.

The gain achieved by a 'hot floor' will be 0.0 and only over complicate things
But a heated floor certainly will help to change the direction of the exhaust plum and thus make it more hot and the combined effect of this two can change the scenario a lot.

how can u say this as i know that every little things can effect the direction and performance of the car, while what we already seen from Scrabs articles that Ferrari is probably trying to channel their exhaust Gas toward the diffuser edge through using air from and over the side of the sidepod. So this can also help to generate necessary pressure difference that can bring more and higher velocity air toward the rear end.

May be i am wrong in details analysis but that does not mean that a heated floor can not help anyhow........... :D
Formula One is a game.............. but not any ordinary game for me

At the speed of the airflow over a floor the heating effect would be negligable, you'd probably be lucky to see 1*c rise at the airstream closest to the surface.

This - compare with the 800*c you get from an exhaust and you can see that this would have v little effect

Yes, if you're using a 'heated floor' to try and gain direct aero benefit.

But this hypothetical wonder floor could just be for cooling. I seem to recall the original rumours we about new cooling innovations, not EBD replacement.

I see - some kind of heat transfer taking it out of the radiators. It would explain why their inlets are so small.
