Lotus E20 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

They can easily adopt STR's ''double floor'' solution and I hope they'll do
Relatively easily of course... fisrt they must displace that metallic bottle placed in the left sidepod (witch used to be placed in the cockpit according to Scarbs) and that feeds the engine's pneumatic valves and that electronic unit (what is it for exactly ?) elsewhere, for example

... don't forget some components were also raised to accommodate the FEE.

Oh no!
I know this isn't relative to the performance of the car but it looks like they're using the same livery they adopted midway through last year with cream bands instead of the gold ones.
Does anyone know why they changed them from gold to cream - the original JPS livery was black with gold stripes not cream stripes.
The car looks absolutely hideous in those colours! and I also wish they'd use thin stripes like the original not thick bands.

They changed from gold to cream to make the sponsors more visible , especially in night conditions.

I thought that the double floor concept would have too many disadvantages to make it worth the effort - the higher centre of gravity and the increased surface area which causes the airflow to lose energy when it passes over.
It didn't really work for Toro Rosso last year or when it was used on the Ferrari F92A (I think that's the one), I would think that most teams would be going for lower RB7 style sidepods this year.

I think that is for exploding as Heidfeld showd last year.

Who said it didnt work for STR? the rest of the car maybe didnt work...
Even with the best aerodynamics, an f1 car can't really succeed if its mechanic grip and/or power, brakes etc are weak. That was the case for Ferrari that year...

Sometimes the cream looks like gold on my tv. (I watch both speed and BBC).

Isn't the electronic box on the right side too heavy a place for a KERS battery? I thought they all placed these as low as possible to help low CoG.

The silver bottle is the compressed nitrogen for the pneumatic valves in the engine, this is normally positioned within the cockpit behind the left of the drivers seat.
The black box is the KERS Power Control Unit. For Mercedes KERS customers this is now integrated with the battery bpack under the fuel tank.

So both could be repositioned relatively easily

Scarbs you already mentioned the PCU before me. Honda had it in similar position.

Thanks  I was a little confused, but I finally understood the ruling about how the nose should look like.
Cars are going to look hideous this time!
