I can't understand why anyone would want to argue on Pirelli's behalf or make excuses for them. It is standard manufacturing practice to include a safety factor and any engineering establishment that does not, is clearly incompetent.
For parts that go through such varied loading as tyres do, the safety factor should be 10:1 at the low end (should be capable of withstanding 10 times normal working stresses), but at Silverstone and a couple of other places, Pirelli's safety factor was clearly less than 1 (damn dangerous).

I'd argue that anyone using a safety factor of 10 is pretty incompetant.

After producing tyres which fail from running over curbs and delaminating from a lockup then blaming the problems on everyone else, I think Pirelli's criticism is entirely justified.

idiotic decision to go to Bahrain, I want Montmelo and not only in May, I hope it will be spring in Montmelo in Feb and duststorms in Bahrain...

Why? It is pertinent to know the why.
1.New kerbs with sharp edges, and drivers cutting the corner.

2. Teams running lower than designed or tested for pressures.Running pressures low is good for durability, but it means the contact patch of the tyre moves towards the inside shoulder - the very area that was being punished by the kerbs.
3. Internal shockwaves as a result of the above 2 points.

Adrian Newey admitted as much:
"The tyre failures appeared to have been from the inside shoulder of the rear tyre. By raising the pressure then you move the contact pressure patch more to the centre of the tyre and less onto the edge."
Those curbs were not new for this year (as far as I know), why didn't we see failures last season and the season before?

Surely 2013s even more fragile tyre was a result of the whole grid becoming comfortable with the 2012 pirellis, despite the original uproar about their lack of durability?

If this is the case then it's no surprise the 2013 tyre was more likely to fail at Silverstone, as it was a weaker tyre, being run at lower pressures by the teams. I think they have probably come unstuck by trying to outsmart a grid of formula one teams with huge resources, whilst they lack resources themselves (testing time/data and of course money).

Or do I just believe Hembrey too much?

All i believe is that they built the worst F1 tire in the history of the sport. Regardless of what teams did with them.
But, if you want to take a grid of cars, super quick, slow, medium fast cars and just equalize the sh*t out of them.
Give them that tire.

Why don't we let the teams make their own tyres ? Like they do with all the other components on the car?
It's just a suggestion

They had their own cameras at 2013 testing. As well as 3D.

i'd be surprised if they don't follow it up again - even without the 3d. they done pretty well with there coverage and this time there will be lots more to talk about and follow. Its gonna be even more interesting
