Mclaren MP4-30 Honda

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

What i find remarkable in that Video is that all the Parts fit so perfect and tha Paintjob is so glossy the real Car actually looks as if it was rendered. 8)

Yes, I remember saying so at the time and being roundly dismissed by the usual "Nothing in the teasers is ever real" suspects.

Front wing strakes now heading inboard, rather than outboard on the MP4-29

Very interesting bit here. Look through the nose hole. It seems like it has another hole on the other side, through which you can see the end of the neutral section of the wing.

Edit: Fixing YouTube link. It seams like I can't put video here starting from chosen second...

Good point out, though.
Nope, under high noses it wasn't the case, as aerodynamic benefits were more important than neatly packed suspension arms.

not optimal for ALo to have such a long nose overhang...
Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.

The pieces on the side of the crash structure look like flip-ups to help with the diffuser central section. The diffuser itself isn't overly detailed. I expect the outflow endless corners like Red Bull uses.
I purposefully ignored the 3D CAD pictures. It appears as if they were made quite a while ago.

The whole front wing is different.

The rear wing, the rear wing end plates are different compared to the pics from the release. Different shape at the leading edge, different shape at the trailing edge. The top edge behind the rear wing is different. The vanes at the back of the rear wing end plate is different. I think they would include the RW support if they are going to use one. It isn't exactly a "secret" item. This leads me to believe that they aren't going to run one. I could very well be wrong but time will tell.

The nose doesn't have the holes in it in the render and there is a panel missing near to the bulkhead which is shown on the release pics but not on the render.

The floor around the rear wheels is different.

As a result of all this I feel fairly confident to say that the diffuser in the CAD model is just a simple representation and will not look like the final one. I to think that their diffuser will have the cutout and outward flick that Mercedes and RedBull have.

interesting that this type of bulkhead is still legal with vanity panel...
( I mean that there is still the use of a vanity panel allowed to bend the rules, AFAIR the vanit panel was introduced to make the step noses of 2013 more eye-pleasing...)

After looking at the Mercedes and Lotus nose it looks like there would be more performance to find in that area unless the wide profile is somehow a performance addition.

It reminds me of the First STR9 with it's very short, small and drooping sidepods. 'Downwash' style. The shapes are similar too. The undercut is big:

Is there definitely no show for a"v" nose (I.e. a partly scooped bulkhead ) so they might swap out that panel for a (shallow) v shape with shoulders?
