I don't think money is the problem for Mercedes or Ferrari.
I think the move to Renault was big parts to keep Alonso happy, leaving after the first season would be a bit of a stab in the back...
I can imagine Mercedes is still but hurt from the whole spygate. In the end it worked out, but with, among others, Alonso's testimony, their faith was sealed and they had to sell McLaren (with other reasons). You don't forget stuff like that. Thats also why the return to McLaren was less crazy then it looks on first sight.
Ferrari is possible, but why? It can only badly, maybe a WCC, But Vettel/Alonso would steal to many points from each other and couldn't compete against Hamilton/Bottas-Occon.
I guess another year at McLaren at least. Out of loyalty and because the work teams have better options at the moment.
