I'm starting to get worried... :(

Its starting to become plausible that England actually make it to the final - where they could conceivably fluke a win over Argentina or Italy :( :( :(

That would be an absolute bloody nightmare of jumping off bridge proportions

I was suprised that the Spanish got kncoked-out my the french. Then again they do have a habbit of NEVER performing well at the knock-out phases of any competition.

It is becoming quite Plausible that England win this.

Spain are out
France have played ONE good match (the rest their performance were poor)
Same with Argentina who made a meal out of beating Mexico (who are on an even par with say Ecuador)(and drawing with Holland wasn't that exceptional seeing as like the Spanish they have a problem with performing at tournaments)
Brazil have looked very ordinary, and have yet to play a really good team, so far they have only played 45minutes (the 2nd half against the japanese) when they made we sit up and watch wide eyed.
Portugal have Deco and Costinha banned.

BUT...England have looked just as poor!

Scarily the only team that look impressive to me so far have been the Germans...you cannot underestimate the power of home support!

England COULD actually win this.

don't stress, I was at Royal Mail yesterday and they've already cut all the England merchandise to half price.

it annoys me so much that if you go into an English pub and shout 1966 everyone will buy you a drink, and that after 40 years they still bring up the surviving players (and a few corpses) at the sportsman of the year awards! Give it a rest guys, 1966 should be famouse because the Shelby AC factory stock was liquidised.

I really don't think that England will win it. Germany is getting better and better every match and of course Brazil is the favourite to win the tournament. France will have a though game against the Brazilians with their Samba-football. I hope the players of Italy feel better after the news one of their ex- team mates at the Squadra or Juventus (where he had a new administrativ role) jumped out of a window to commit suicide. Del Pierro and Zambrotta flew to Italy to visit him and I hope that they'll find the spirit to win the match for him instead of thinking about it too much and lose!

In Germany they are laughing with England btw and the English players. This time it was Beckham who was on the spot. They laughed with him because he was throwing up on the field last game. They made up things why he would have to through up (I'll name the ones I remember)
- He gets sick of the way the English play
- He gets sick thinking about what Victoria is doing with his creditcards

Its funny how if your English and your proud of '66 your a fool and need to let it go. YET, if your Brazilian and you mention 1970 everybody says "Oh yes, the best international football team EVER". If your French and you mention '98 its "Ah c'est vrai! The multi-cultural team that halved the race problems in France after you won it." If your Argentinian and you mention 1986 then its "aah when Maradonna scored that incredible solo goal in the semi's" (or if your English its "where Maradonna put us out with his sodding HAND!" )

I dunno why it is that if you're English, 1966 counts for nothing, yet if your from ANYWHERE else in the world ALL your world cup success is applauded.

SHOCK! HORROR! GASP!!! We are proud of what our team achieved 40years ago! Lay off guys its not a crime, we are proud of whats been achieved, its history, it cannot be erased so try try to rub it out. We r just proud of the success we've had (just like the Uraguayan's would be proud of winning the first ever world cup, just how the french should be proud of winning the '98 world cup, and just like the Germans should be proud of wining the (I think '82 world cup) by beating the Dutch after going 1-0 down, and the Brazilians having won it 6times!)

While I'm my little rant, I also love the whole "it did cross the line" "no it didnt" argument. Maybe it didnt PHYSICALLY cross the line in its entirety, BUT fact of the matter is it did because the ref said so. He consulted his linesman and the decision was made. Every Team has decisions go for and against us.

So we were allowed one goal where it may not have counted (in a match we won by 2 goals  ) but lets not forget Maradonna's hand of god goal, we can argue t was with his hand (he even admitted it) but the goal stands because the ref said so. Just like Deco deserved his 2 yellow cards the other day, because the ref said so. Just like the italians deserved that penalty against the aussies, because the ref said so.

It doesnt matter IF anything did or didnt deserve to be given...the ref makes the decision.

Being English I can think of sooooo many times we've been hard done by, as if it only happens to us. But I bet anyone of you could name a plethora of times that you feel your team has been hard done by. (what if Sol Cambell's goal against Portugal had stood....Monstro would have gone mental  )

One last point, everytime I hear about people saying "Leave it out '66 was 40 years ago" they always tend to be from a country that has as yet not won the world cup...interesting.

So to all of you who complain about us being proud of 1966

"...JUST COS U AIN'T WON IT YET!!!" :P

(unless ure Brazilian, German, French, Uraguayan, Italian or Argentinian)

And thats the end of my rant (please dont be too offened it was semi-serious at times)
