"I look at it like this, when you go to a football match, you come into the home ground, the opposition will be booed at some point and it's not up to the local club to go on to the speakers and say 'guys, you cannot boo,' as it will naturally happen," Verstappen said.
It shouldn’t be accepted as ‘inevitable’. Motorsport fans and football fans are totally different and you can’t draw comparisons between the two. I’m not being classist, it’s just true.
You're speaking of a small group of the motorsports fan community that is different. The majority now of F1 fans, which has been even further established thanks to DTS, are no different than the standard football fan. Very biased. Very opinionated. Treat everything with blinders on.RicerDude wrote: ↑01 Jul 2022, 11:25[quote=langedweil post_id=1070691

I suspect that you’re overlooking the elephant in the room which is Max’s comments relating to his father in law’s views towards Lewis and his subsequent dismissal of them as “no biggie”.Wouter wrote: ↑01 Jul 2022, 12:14.langedweil wrote: ↑30 Jun 2022, 23:26.Asked whether he wanted to send a message to fans at Zandvoort to show more respect for his title rival this weekend, Verstappen said the booing was inevitable.

It is more than that.
What Max says there is about a football match between two rival clubs whose opponents are the direct opponents that must be defeated. That sometimes causes boo calls.
In this case, the Silverstone GP, it was Lewis's supporters who shouted boo to Max, one of the 19 other drivers.
Why actually?
Max is not a rival to Lewis at all. Lewis is currently not competing for the World Cup at all, so he has nothing to fear from Max.
At the moment it is between Ferrari and RBR and in particular between Leclerc and Max.
The Ferrari fans in the stands don't boo Max, do they?!
You would rather expect Russell to get boo, because that is Lewis' direct rival.
That’s why ADO supporters are always welcoming AJAX in The Hague, oh wait…Wouter wrote: ↑01 Jul 2022, 12:14.langedweil wrote: ↑30 Jun 2022, 23:26.Asked whether he wanted to send a message to fans at Zandvoort to show more respect for his title rival this weekend, Verstappen said the booing was inevitable.

The year that ‘Our Nige’ picked up Ayrton on the slow-down lap (‘92, I think), there was a gallows in the crowd with an Ayrton mannequin (with race-suit, helmet, etc) hanging from it. ‘Our Nige’ picked him up because it looked as though Ayrton could be in real trouble….RicerDude wrote: ↑01 Jul 2022, 11:25I don’t remember booing being a thing pre Seb Vettels Redbull years? The British media helped to create a real mob mentality back then.
