Mercedes W12

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Is this the 'smoking gun'? Look at the white spot becoming visible where the mainplane joins the endplate. Assuming this graphic is not doctored then it does seems 'blatantly obvious,' as dans79 says, after all!

Quite a cheeky bit of moveable aero by the Mercedes designers if true.
Didn't rate down as I felt this was a jokey post.

But it's just where Hamilton changes direction that the gap becomes more visible. The wing isn't actually moving in any meaningful way (apart from shaking)
*tongue pushed firmly into cheek*

So it is moving, then….
I thought that it measured “rock solid” on the FIA testing equipment…

*now removing tongue from cheek*
Sadly these days you can't even post that as someone will think you're being serious!

Looks like the team went with a medium/low df wing, it's definitely not a high df one!

its blurry because of the depth of field, but you can still see the general shape!

Bottom left picture gives a good perspective of Lewis's rear wing (I think, because the other images are Lewis's car by the looks of the T cam?).

Edit on closer inspection I can see number 44 so definitely Lewis's car.

Look at that course asphalt aggregate layer! It's very grippy, indeed, but at the expense of being abrasive to tires.

LOL, and they said to Lewis over the radio that they had looked and the front wing of the W12 was "fine" .

I don't know how he does it sometimes, he definitely gets the most out of the machinery available to him.

Glad to get confirmation that the W12 was quickest in the race. Depending on how practice goes next week, would it be mad to put in spanking new Brazil engine to ensure the pace advantage at the cost of the grid drop? It’s of course a HUGE risk to pass Verstappen as we saw today though, but he has avoided him so far pretty well, all things considered.

And to have the stones to go for FL with the FW wrecked. I don’t have the words.

Jup Lewis is quite the champ!
Unbelievable drive, avoiding that crazy lunatic and posting fastest lap with half his front wing hanging down in the dumbster. 8)
Someone was watching over Lewis today [-o< as he could have a double wrecked race (ocon and max hits)

I hope they can bring the titles home, so close but yet to far. Winning the titles with the 2nd best car and the best driver would be quite the achievement. Lewis did it in '08, he can do it again if he doesn't get rammed by the crazy crashkid who's willing to do anything it seems...
Mercedes AMG + Hamilton => dreamteam!

Couple more pics of the FW.

Merc engineers estimated the damage cost Lewis 0.4s/lap.

I’m fairly shocked he was able to carry on without needing to pit after that. That car took a fair few knocks yesterday.
