McLaren MP4-28 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The second picture actually looks like the old wing

Yes, at least looking at the end plates design, seems like the wing used in Spain.

You are correct. The wings have the old profile, instead of the new delta shape. However, it looks like it is still on the rack, detached. Probably they just brought it along for spare parts.

Which wing are you talking about? Front or rear?

They are still going with the three element design despite other teams going with multiple elements!

And last years car was the fastest with the 3 element design. So what is your point? They have a different aero philosophy for aero on their car. It has been pretty well established that the problems they are having this year is not a result of their front wing. They are using as much of the width of the wing as possible to develop downforce while other teams focus on developing all their downforce on the outermost parts of the wing. While leaving the inner parts cleaner for aero. Maybe it could be that McLaren are trying to get their airflow up and over the suspension components.

Either way we don't know for sure. The only thing we know is that 1. They work their aero a different way than other teams and 2. They made a potential championship winning car last year with the same 3 element wing.

mclaren when they started the season had so clean and nice lines, especially the side pods, now the mclaren has a huge "bubble" on the sidepod/engine cover, that can not be good for aero or, mercedes dont seem to need it, do you know if its cooling related or aero

seeing how they put the towels there, maybe they rerouted the exhaust to get more sidepod undercut
