Ferrari 150° Italia

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I don't know if it's the good thread to post that, but according some rumors, Ferrari will annonce at monza that Rory Byrne is back with them.

And look at this : http://www.ferrari.com/English/Formula1 ... n_Fry.aspx
For example, I see a great relationship between Pat and Nikolas Tombazis, along with the support that comes from the amazing experience of an extraordinary man like Rory Byrne, who continues to be extremely valuable to us, even though he has been working only part time for several years now.”

Byrne has been a consultant to them since he left in 2004. What's different now?

Genius yes, but he needs to be able to apply that knowledge; and he has lacked 6.5 years of hands-on knowledge on how to do that.

Hands-on knowledge means knowledge of actual working (i.e. getting your hands dirty)

Agreed, I'd like to see Ferrari catch up in this area, but at this time of year most updates are things they're looking at for next year, so I'm afraid EBD improvements would take away resources from updates that could help next year as well.
You're absolutely right, especially considering rules about EBD aren't clear for next year so it's developtment would only be used this year, in theory...

You can still use the exhausts to add downforce next year, it's just that you have to use them differently because of their position.

Aren´t they reverting back to the exhausts on top thing again?

If yes, then it will be pretty hard to get the exhaust gases to flow partly through a diffuser.

Who said that flowing through the diffuser was the only way to use exhaust gas energy to generate downforce?

I thought they had a mandated exit point somewhere where it just blew into clean air (if you view the rear in projection it goes into the spot above the beam wing and below the rear wing where there's usually a great expanse of nothing)

Excatly. They could also be blowing the rear wing. If they can manage to blow the exhaust on the underside of the wingprofile.

Red Bull started blowing the diffuser and suddenly it is beleived that you can blow anything...
