Red Bull RB7 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

with the two inlets leading to the starter hole slot ...could it be they use low pressure behind the car to enhance flow in the cokebottle area close to the gearbox kind of removing boundary layer buildup in that area?

Those holes are flat on top. I think they are so tucked away is to keep that bad flow away from the main flow going over the diffuser. You see those special gurney flaps with the slots on top of the diffuser, probably the bad air flow is kept away from them with those ducts.

Check out that "sparse" rear wing. That has to be the smallest rear wing in the field this weekend (I watched P1 on live feed so I know :P ). Torro Rosso also looks quite small too.

I think what you're seeing is the reflection of the yellow nose, not a fire.

Great pic and thanks for sharing it! Notice how the diffuser flow goes right to the tip of the exist, connected all the way, including that little taper they added when they built in that gurney slot.

The purpose of the small square openings on each side of the tea tray or bib? Cooling?

Just to divert air away from the boundary layer caused by the stepped floor. it is not a hole but is a hollow passage, more like a tunnel.

When fluid flows through square shaped ducts that have are slightly bent, you get vortices because the shear forces from the walls are not equal like in a circular cross section. BMW started to make use of this fact in the intake plenum of E36 3 series.
