Ferrari 150° Italia

Why though? I mean, I'm not a very aero guy, but wouldn't blowing under the rear wing introduce more air under the wing, and decrease downforce?

That's exactly what I asked about the diffuser... The argument seems to be by putting hot exhaust there you energise the air, you make it flow faster, and you lower the pressure... but it seems *really* counter intuitive to me.

It's not about increasing the volume, it's about maximizing the difference in pressure, heating high pressure air increases the pressure further, hence a larger pressure differential, and more downforce. That's why they're not blowing directly towards the diffuser (where the pressure is low) but at it's edges where the pressure is high. Remember downforce isn't generated by the kinetic force of the airstream but rather the difference in air pressure over and under the car.

Take a pice of paper and put in above two books on the table. The books should be side-by-side with a gap between them. The paper should cover the gap. Now take something like drinking straw and blow air below the paper so it travels into that gap between books. See what happens.

Never thought of doing that actually. That would make a fantastic simulation of a straw "exhaust" "blowing" the underside of the paper

Is it an effect of parallax, or is Alonso running more wing?

Certainly a different wing, not really sure about more though. Weren't Ferrari testing a flexi-wing today?

Yes they are! But they have some problems with setup! The wing doesnt work propelty like they expect!

New engine cover. (Subtle difference towards the rear.)

Anyone got pics of the old spec for comparison? Or maybe mind pointing out what's new?

The new engine cover is slightly more bulbous just ahead of the cooling cutout. As I said, very subtle difference.

This is the old spec, from Hungary. The slight difference in orientation of the bottom of the Ferrari logo makes the change more apparent.

To be honest, I'm not sure it's so much "new" as just "hey, we need a bit more cooling at the high power circuit".

Last year too, Alonso use more wing than Massa
