Sent an email to Hungaroring saying they should name a corner after Hamilton as a celebration of his 4th win,
Turn 2 was an option Hamilton said in the FIA press conference transcript.

haha ,taylormade ...

please forgive the error but i recently purchased one of these . it may have had an influence...

fittingly REDBull does get a Grand Prix in Austria at the same time... surprise, surprise and not a single word from Dr Marko this time -who would think bad about all this.

Why would one take official statements by Pirelli,Mercedes AMG or anyone in Formula 1 at face value when obviously all these are bending the truth as it suits them -like they bend the rules .

But hey ,they have worked hard and found the answer to their issues after 4 years of struggle to find an answer to any tyre they got hold off...Now they understand the tyre everyone bar them has evaluated..that´s a striking achievement and a steep learning curve.. :?

Not a particularly technical post, and I'm probably alone on this, but whenever Toto Wolf gives an interview does anyone else close their eyes and think its Rainiere Wolfcastle from The Simpsons?

I have a technical F1 blog page that has highlights of all the team's updates from every race of the season. You can find all the latest upgrades on the Mercedes W04 from the Hungarian GP here: thewptformula.wordpress.com

I have all the other teams but thought I'd make you aware that you can see all the Mercedes parts, too. Cheers!

Very nice blog! Very detailed posts. The blog is at the same standards as Scarb's one used to be. Bookmarked.

For Lewis Hamilton, I believe this may be the very first time he's won a 1st place grand prix trophy he's allowed to take home.

We could say tailor-made tires; we could also point out that there may have been nothing to stop Brawn from unlocking that private server after the tribunal handed down their sentence. Either way, Mercedes went into this weekend blind as far as real-world experience with these tires was concerned. --To be able to take whatever they had and negate the benefit of the YDT found in the other teams is laudable. Great effort by the team, fantastic result, and a wonderful finish for Lewis.

I'm absolutely thrilled right now; what a great way to into the mid-season break.

Auto Motor und Sport about Lewis Hamilton's (improved) tyre wear in Hungary:
- A better set-up focused on race pace/tyre wear
- Clean air
- No fast corners increasing the tyre temps
- Kevlar-belted tyres, decrease tyre temps with 10 degrees compared with the old 2013 tyres.
- Better understanding of the tyres

Worse yet that is one of 8 engines out for this season which means that at least one other engine will have to do one more race than expected unless in the unlikely even this was the last race they were going to use that engine. One extra race for a formula 1 engine is a big deal in this day and age.

What ? I thought you could replace the engine and not lose an allocation if the driver retires because of an engine failure - which is a penalty in itself. Just like a gearbox failure and replacement. Is that not the case ?

Wasn't that a new engine too? I heard many teams brought in shiny new engines for this grand prix.

And yeah, unlike gearboxes you can't move another possible engine on the timeline. Gearboxes each have to hold it out 5 races, except for breakdowns. Meaning if they all hold it out, you would be at 4 gearboxes a seaon. Say that gearbox 2 fails during its first race, race 6, you would be able to move the 3 other gearboxes down the timeline, enabling one additional gearbox a few races before the end. Also you cannot replace the gearbox with one you are going to use later on. You are stuck with the gearbox you put in for 5 races or until its untimely demise.

Not so for the engines. You get 8 of those and thats it. Breaks one down, you are left with only 7 more. You are also allowed to change them anytime you want before qualifying and the race. Maybe they are allowed to repair the engine, but I doubt it.

Hungary was a total write off last year for the team ...over and understeer all at the same time high temps on the outside tyres too low on inside ...they were completely at sea ..with Kevlar belted tyres .
so you guys tell me they mastered a brand new tyre in one weekend based on a construction they never really understood driving the full 2012 season?
They claim to have concentrated on finding race setups but still were there or therabouts in terms of qualyspeed the whole weekend.
I have my doubts.
On the other hand they were the ones who did that tyre test that led to these new tyres .
Tyre testing usually is not trying to adapt the car to the tyres ,you just dial in your baseline setup and then the car is not touched anymore apart from fuelloads.
It goes without saying the tested car and testdrivers have a major impact on the outcome of such a test. Not long ago a team with Red cars and a german driver was the tyre suppliers favourite tyre testing outfit and the tyres wer made to suit them and this led to a few championships if I remember correctly.
a certain Ross brawn was involved as well...

To me it is also logical that lotus has a slight edge in terms tyre usage simply because Pirelli does use their genes by using an old car of them for tyre testing .They certainly have a much better understanding of their own products needs so if a tyre is developped for their old car it is more than likely They know about the charecteristics of aero and suspension of the test hack better than anyone and are able to apply this knowledge to their current machinery...

I don´t want to take away anything from them ,but seriously this change is a political masterstroke not based on engineering expertise.

This post should get erased, or moved to some kind of conspiracy thread, then entire thing is laughable.
