Red Bull RB6

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

A very good point about the lack of oxygen in the exhaust.
You forget the fuel they run is oxygenated. Don't ever believe the lie that they run pump gas.

Do you have a source for this information?

They say it damages the engine.. but they should have clarified. I am not sure delaying the ignition can damage the engine :?: I'm a little skeptical Anybody knows?
When using antilag you end up with a flame running past the base of the valve and then passing through the head. This leads to localised heating of the head and more importantly tends to burn bits of the valve away.
Could this be the reason for the famous "spark plug fault" with Vettel's car and Webber's flume of smoke at the start of the race in Bahrain (I think it was Bahrain anyway!). Perhaps a significant amount of fuel was left in the exhaust system following the Q3 run, which burnt off at the start of the race when full power was applied?
At the end of Q3 the exhaust would be glowing red at close to 1000C, and unburnt fuel would have evaporated. Maybe, the drivers have an 'overtake' button that gives them this option for a limited period during the race.

True, if the exhaust were at 1000 degreesC, then yep, the fuel would most certainly evaporate. But we don't know what sort of clever cooling devices they might have tucked away in their exhaust package.

Or in this case, a "Stick the car to the deck when I come off the revs" button? I don't think so myself though. I have no basis for this, but it feels like it would be illegal.

They are allowed 5 different engine maps so totally legal to switch to the enhanced downforce force qually setting on the fly.

The only restriction is the map used for the start must be used for the whole of the first lap before it can be deselected.

The drivers do have a overtake button, that ups the revs and adds more fuel etc to give max power, whether they have linked this to a special ignition setting is an interesting idea.

If they do this, then they will be putting a lot of extra stress on the exhaust manifold and exhaust.

They do get quite warm 8)

Residual fuel will combine with oxygen when it leaves the exhaust. If you guys are talking about the smoke and soot that is something else.

Fuel burning in the exhaust will produce flames and any wasting of fuel without producing power from it is a non starter.

Honestly I my self am a little skeptical with this claim, the parameters are temperature and flow right. I can see the air flow remaining quite similar, but temperature.. I just don't see why the team needs 1300*C over 800*C. With a turbine the extra 400*C or whatever temperature would be pretty useful, but with aerodynamics, Is the flow not attached enough? My mind just wandered on a Hot air balloon... A raise in pressure then, but still pretty minimal i suspect considering the volume is not constrained.

What they need to do is install one of these in the exhaust :D

not sure if this technology is banned?

Looks like they're monitoring the F-Duct's operation somewhat still. Any sign of Flo-Vis being used by RB?
