Mercedes GP MGP W01

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I know its pretty early to tell until the race day but I am not counting Rosberg, He is good at adapting any car given to him. So I dont think this will be a big issue for him.

That is the most idiotic decision they could have made.

Maybe because this chassis is faster than the older one?! MS staying in front of NR doesn't mean Nico it's slower driving this chassis...

Isn't Rosberg using his old chassis and only Schumacher the new one?

Who said its not suiting Nico?
Nico himself has said that the car is not well suited for him aswell... its only that he was doing excellent job with the crap car.
He even said he likes Oversteary car, and the current car was understeering badly.

Moreover Nico is basically were he used to be all season
he set some good times , matching the Mclarens and Ferraris.(just like the first 4 races)

Its only the Schumy seems to beat that ...and go even faster than Macs and Ferraris ...as the car is well balanced for him aswell

BTW, if the car overturns in sand trap, I'm afraid that it will lay on driver's head instead of vertical crash structure that will dip trough gravel like knife trough hot butter.
the Airbox is not the crash structure....the T cam on top of the car is the one which works as roll structure for the car and the beam below strengthens it.
and the knife like thing wont even go into gravel

No.... what they did was change Schumy's chassis to the test chassis they used
as his chassis was damaged

and both the chassis have the lastest upgrades...which include wheel base change, airbox change and lots of small small aero update

T cam casings would fly on multiple roll, or snap on landing since they are just thin hollow casing for two cameras. There is no T structure, just vertical one.

Regarding Nico and new chassis, well, these are his worst results this year on FP. It suits MSC, not him.

The actual crash structure is the blade, which is constant between the previous airbox and this one. They just shifted the box back. The head rest which manchild drew the line to is just a headrest, not the roll over structure. Like someone else pointed out before, I think while the structure may well pass all the FIA tests, it just seems that it has a better chance of digging into gravel or even snap off in case of more extreme crash compare to the more conventional one....

Thats the final resting place of Kubica's crash
the T-cam is still there even after say 8 spins on a hard surface

If you look at the crash-footage, the car rolled only once and cam most likely didn't touch the ground even.

Your hatred for MS is blinding your judgment on this.

As I have said and others, The new car will be faster than the old one, its just MS is now probably able to show why he was a 7 times world champion. In the right car he is stupidly fast. What you are seeing now is a car that is playing into his style.

That does not mean its not a better car for NR.

I draw a line not to headrest but to airbox where the bodywork is as wide as on typical airbox. All above is just the blade.

Kubica's cameras either hardly touched the tarmac or didn't touch at all. Horizontal part of T is thin hollow CF bubble meant only to serve as camera housing.

Manchild. your line on the photo is quite telling. This line would also approximate the real airflow over the drivers helmet. Note that previously the air intake would have been above this line, and in clear air. Now it is below the line, and in potentially disturbed air.

The longer wheelbase has also a second, according to Brawn pleasant side effect. The greater distance between the front wheels and side pods allows the air cleaner to run under the car, of which the larger twin diffuser benefited. This is made possible by modifications to the baffles and the beginning of the subfloor. There, the worst turbulence intercepted and led away from the car.

Looks like they have a bigger diffuser!
More could have been done.
