Red Bull RB9 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

That´s funny. I thought about exactly the same thing when i watched rear view camera of the red bull.
I know it´s the tire flexing but the thought actually popped up in my head.

Why the T-tray of the car is hot? :-k
Because it was scraping the ground. Webbers car was set up to low for first stint in FP1. They corrected this very quickly. Later on during sessions this area was only blue.
Webbers t tray looked hot again in quali

And in the race. This isn't scraping the t-tray anymore.

I've been thinking about these extrusions (Mainly the top one) in the rear of the RB9, and I have a theory.

Do you think that the rear bodywork is somehow slightly flexible, but needs to be entirely rigid in the one area? The top one seems a little too intricate to be merely for cooling, although the bottom one is clearly in a shape which would create a low pressure zone at the exhaust exit.

Cheers,
Death.

The top one splits the airflow to the exit on the side of the gearbox(which sometimes is blocked off) and to the large central exit.

The lower one is not even remotely close to the exhaust and does the same thing as the top one does, only for splitting the airflow between the cooling hole near the gearbox and allowing a bit of air flowing inside the tunnel

As RB said it was broken oil radiator that had caused oil leakage and further combustion.
