safety car helped him???

he had already pitted and lost out ....alonso passed him thanks to that

and the second safety car ... disaster

listening to the BBC
first pit stop button called , not clear if he WOULD have undercut vettel as vettel's pit problems put him 6 seconds behind button which button increased to 17.5 on options

second pit stop team called , with the safety car next lap don't know if they got that correct or not [ with safety car was clearly wrong but that's 20-20 hindsight ]

with about 10 laps or so remaining , directly behind leaders ....team radio that they expect vettel's tyres to be gone in 2/3 laps ...keeps his cool , alonso also has tyre problems but not so bad

safety car ....chance now slim
red flag ...chances improved if they re-start....except
free pit stop on grid ......no further chance

so the chips did fall ....for vettel and alonso

c'est la vie

roll on canada !

Wait what? You think the SC helped button? Button had 3 pit stops at racing speed with no SC, vettel had 2 free pit stops due to SC/red flag. In what way did this help button?

Button's made a pit stop with the first SC. So he ended up 2.3 sec behind Vettel on lap 40 with fresher tyres, ready to pounce when Vettel had his second stop ..... except Vettel didn't stop again.

Hence it seemed the first SC was perfect for Button at the time.

Back to OP, I wouldn't be surprised if the cards fall into place for Button this season (and also for Webber).

Congratulations for you :P

Though really, really great driving today from Jense. But did you see the look on Hamilton's face when Vettel went off? Joy and envy at the same time.

what a drive !!

I just hope his team mate learns from that ...he may be the fastest driver in F1 , but for a combination of speed , craft and character he still has a lot to learn from jenson

Jenson punted him off, I don't think Hamilton's character had anything to do with that. It's just an accident on Button's part, not intentional in my mind, just bad luck.

you can't punt somebody off from in front when you have the racing line

Lewis punted Webber off, but there was no way Button "punted" Lewis off, sorry he barely had a wheel alongside him.
