Cast steel?! I meant aluminium. I thought that was obvious, which OEMs use cast steel arms?
I didn't go into any detail in earlier post cos was dashing off on way out house, used to work in warranty for a tier 1, saw a few broken suspension arms so familiar with failure modes. Your "real engineers" have already thought their way around it and don't use an unreliable process to manufacture critical parts. They are NOT going to test every one, they don't even do that with stuff like oil pumps or pistons
Like marcush said they are very intent on reducing waste - you must be from a racing background though not OEM because even the piffling dollars they save is HUGE if they sell 10mill cars!
The best engineering solution is usually the simplest too, not the most exotic or expensive, it's not F1 ;
