Wouldn't it be hard to tell where everyone is actually at because of the nature of the track (more emphasis on mechanical grip than other tracks).

You can never tell the pecking order from a single race result anyway - it's just bad statistics. But you can see cognitive biases in a single race result, if that's what you'd prefer.

If you look at the champions standings now after 5 races, you can definitely see the pecking order.

Well, if it happens, Mclaren will be more than happy to have Jenson driving that Mclaren. Won't be surprised if a gamble pays off and he winds up into the top 10.

Nice summary Fulcrum! I'd like to see him get another Spa victory, but he doesn't seem at home in these new cars.

Yeah, good stuff - thanks! The irony, of course, is that he turned the fastest ever lap of the circuit here - a 1:13.532 in 2006 Q2.

But agree, he doesn't seem to like it and I believe I have heard him say so.

They've reset the records - with changes to the track - which I still think is a shame but nevertheless I think they'll go a tad faster than last year and hence beat Kimi's all-time record. Won't get close to Michael's old lap record in the race though, of course.

Wider cars, I wonder if they'll hit the barriers more? I do still think a shorter car will pay dividends and hence bring Mercedes and Red Bull toward each other - With Seb out front - but interesting to see if I'm proven wrong.

In the 90s yes, but during the last years(with exception of 2016) the weather has been pretty dry.

Some chaos in the vein of 1996 and 1997 would be great. Monaco with rain is simply amazing.

Based on last year's data, if the race is wet (just wet, not raining or drizzling, post rain), then the one who pits first, loses the position. The track is notoriously slow for an outlap after the pitting (going from wet/intermediate to dry) and it pays to be to second to pit.

Last year Hamilton's outlap was 10 seconds slower than his next best lap! Most of the drivers had similar story, ranging from 7 to 10 seconds slower on the outlap. Inspite of Ricciardo having a disastrous second pit stop losing almost 10 seconds, he came out just behind Hamilton who had pitted on the previous lap.

On another note I must say, Mercedes strategists have come a long way since that funny afternoon in 2015.

Do you know what? This year, it would be great to not have a safety car within the middle of the GP. I remember 2014, it was so close between Hamilton and Rosberg and I really did wonder if Hamilton could pull off getting past Rosberg by staying out a lap longer. Unfortunately, a safety car phase ruined that opportunity in 2014 and both drivers retained their position. This race could be well something if we have two drivers battling out at front sticking close to each other and one of them attempting an overpass without the element of a safety car.
