RIP Murray Walker, the voice of F1

Murray Walker WAS F1 for me. I hope Liberty does something permanent to memorialize his name.

Hope it is not too gimmicky. Maybe an award of some sort would be great.

Seems strange listening to his commentary on the '95 Canada GP in the testing lunchtime break.

Dear old "Muddy Talker" was often hopeless and got so many things wrong but it did with so much enthusiasm and affection for his sport and the people doing it. I well remember watching Murray back when I was a kid and both my father and I rolling our eyes at all of his mistakes. But his enthusiasm carried you through. A legend.

I'm struggling to think of anyone else. He was perfect for motorsport.

Peter Alliss was brilliant with golf- although a more contrasting style you could not imagine.

Watching F1 , as a much younger man, on a tele-vision , was a feast.
Not from the picture quality, the excitement came from Murray Walker.
A fantastic voice to put you on the edge of your seat.
A wonderful person, who lead me through not so exciting races, tragedy’s, emotions and epic races .
It was al loss for me ( and many more I think) when he retired.
The news of him crossing the finish line , touched my heart.

I'm American too, and I grew up with Murray and James Hunt. I grew up in Buffalo, NY, across the river from Ontario, Canada. We got 3 Canadian TV stations, and CBC showed the BBC broadcast of F1 races after their late news on Sunday nights.

I fell in love with F1 in the mid '80s watching Murray and James on those CBC re-broadcasts.

Murray is the best sports announcer I have ever seen, in any sport, any country.

Let's not forget he was driving around in a tank in WWII as well; I know he did some time in North Africa against Rommel at one point.

I spent several hours watching Murray-related content last night on Youtube. There is a TON of stuff out there to enjoy.

To say he'll be missed is the understatement of the century.
