He’s quite possibly the greatest sports commentator of all time regardless of sport. In addition to his 23 years as a full-time commentator the man presented, covered, or wrote about F1
* UK commentator.
As an American, Murray only came into our houses via highlight reels or Youtube. I dod enjoy him when I heard him though. RIP
No asterisk. Greatest commentator.
I'm American too, and I grew up with Murray and James Hunt. I grew up in Buffalo, NY, across the river from Ontario, Canada. We got 3 Canadian TV stations, and CBC showed the BBC broadcast of F1 races after their late news on Sunday nights.
I fell in love with F1 in the mid '80s watching Murray and James on those CBC re-broadcasts.
Murray is the best sports announcer I have ever seen, in any sport, any country.
Let's not forget he was driving around in a tank in WWII as well; I know he did some time in North Africa against Rommel at one point.
God bless that man!
I spent several hours watching Murray-related content last night on Youtube. There is a TON of stuff out there to enjoy.
To say he'll be missed is the understatement of the century.
