AlphaTauri AT04 Speculation Thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

And 'Honda' cannon exits are slimmer and higher for more clearance towards lower rear end ; )

As silly as this sounds, Orlen stickers look to be photoshopped on the car renders, on high-res pictures they are clearly worse quality than the rest of the car (red parts around white letters in particular). Red surfaces also seem to lack adequate shading. This makes me think this is an older AT04 design, from 2-3 months ago maybe.

You can upload the image to that website and it will highlight any areas of potential error if the thing has been photoshopped. Not sure if it works on renders or actual photos which have been edited, but if anyone understands it, looks pretty cool

I also spot they've swapped from a double swan-neck support for their rear wing to a single pylon in-line with the drs pod like the top teams had last year.

Not sure whether to analyse this... But interesting that the roll hoop inlet has gotten smaller and the sidepod inlets larger.
Since teams discovered that the best floor is one that is rigid, the design is guided to large sidepod-housed stays and brackets. And since the side-pods will be large for structural reasons the byproduct is extra volume.. Extra volume that can sensibly used for housing more cooling. And if you are gonna put more cooling in the side pod anyway, might as well remove it from the roll roop.

I'm not sure Mercedes is convinced.

They did this upgrade in 2022. The floor was made thicker to increase rigidity. The engineers likely integrated a thick honeycomb-like structure in the floor. You can sorta expect that in 2023 this would be more optimized with that* rumoured modification that I mentioned in previous post (not sure if mods deleted it?).

Basically Mercedes can shape the outer edge of the side pod to allow a more rigid floor and to maintain outwash while still keeping the zero-pod likeness.

Edit** We have diverted to Mercedes in the AT-04 topic!!

Went to a pushrod at the rear to get it out of the downwash area.

Seems the renders were completely accurate. No longer optimistic about the season at all :D
.
Maybe now it is time to continue here? I don't know.
