CAD? I don't think it can be a bottleneck. Rims will be "filled" with cylindrical volumes (if you can't find them in the template, maybe the staff forgot to include them), no additional cells (no cells at all) there should be inside the internal rim volume.
PS: I am thinking to Solidworks/Spaceclaim/Fusion 360/FreeCAD... workflow, I am not sure that my suggestions are valid for SketchUp
