Ferrari F2004

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Well, I'm disappointed. Hopefully it's fast and the new parts will help because let's face it if Ferarri needs a superior chassis/engine package because I don't think Bridgestone will be better than the Michelins.

Neither do I, and I think its kind of lame for Ferrari to be so outward about how the tires will determine the championship.. if the Bridgestones are so bad, then why don't they design a wider front tire!? I know tire development isn't easy, but hell they've known the Michelins run shop in the dry since early last season- they've had almost a year to design and develop replacements.

I think the Red Sunday reign is going to come to an abrupt end this season.. now its the question of who will take the crown. However, Ferrari IS still the team to beat and Schuey is not going to go quietly. Reliability and consistency is going to be Ferrari's trump card.

Well if you look at the car from the sides you won't see that abrupt cut in the engine cowling, w/ the rear swoop or tires blocking it from view. But yeah it looks like a WTF kinda thing.

The airbox has been modified as you seen in West and Beostar's posts to accomadate the 2004 rules which require a minimum amount of sponsor space for the airbox (the rule gives dimensions for airbox height and length).

Also what is this controversial MP4-18 cockpit opening position. Pictures or a drawing would help.

Looks like Bridgestones will be running on high camber-thrust angles/geometry (no change in design philosophy for 2003).
The question is, why persist with this design, when it has been proven to be inferior???
Here is a 2004 Bridgestone and Michelin comparison:

well, inferior bridgestone might be,but it was good enough for ferrari to secure both title last season.so eventhough the tyre is bad,the margin of "badness" is still recoverable, for ferrari to win last year.

but from other teams point of view,it might be bad because there are running at the tail of the field, but not so for ferrari.whatever it is,or how bad it is,ferrari seems to be able to somewhat compensate.i expect this year to be the same, super chasis to compensate the tyre weaknesses.

ferrari will win again..on bridgestone...with single keel..without tusk..with conventional nose.. :P

In order to continue to make a step forward in aerodynamic performance, every area affecting the aerodynamics has been further developed and many new components will be introduced during our test programme in February so the car we will race in Melbourne will look different in many areas to the one you see here.
So all the aerodynamic parts on the car are from the F2003-GA. We will have to look at testing pictures to see what new changes are made

Also I have noticed that the bottom element of the rear wing is curved in plan view

about ferrari and bridgestone, does anyone know whether it is against the contract or something for ferrari to try out michelin in testng at least?
and whether they actually did try out anything ever?

That wing element is concave, as shown in the rear 3/4 view:

Also notice how the chimneys have reverted to the F2002 design, albeit angled towards the gearbox, and the quirky dogtooth trailing edge on the vertical dams (end of the flick-ups?). Damn - so annoying that teams always covers the diffuser, but from what I can see, very interseting...

All I can see at the moment is it's aerodynamics. But even still it's uninteresting compared to the MP4/19 or FW26.... Can Ferrar catch up with a single keel design??

Might be an optical illusion, but the F2004 seems to have more toe-out than its predecessor F2003-GA...

Why people hear think that the twin-keel is so much an advantadge over the single-keel?

Won't it cause enormous turbulence?

its so thin and its tapers from the front of the airbox,so I think it wont cause any big turbulence.its the same principle as the wing, there's always a turbulent but in this case it is not sensitive I guess
