Well, according to Loeb's comment after the crash ("putain de neige" = "f*cking snow" ) and everything I read on the subject, I was pretty sure that was a driver error.
Looking at the vid last page it seems he was leaning very gently on the bank like always and suddenly the snow got on the wrong side of his front left as it got deeper and spun him round, as he was broadside the sill hit the snow and stopped while the top of the car carried on and over it went.
At least 2 baddly damaged wheels (hence all the stalling as the engine couldn't turn the damn things) which eventually caused to the clutch being dragged through hell. The damage was just too much to fix.
