Axle, I don't dispute that wind is variable and I agree that the UK's target of 30% is extreme with todays technology but a new electrical grid model is in the works ( in the EU anyway) The backbone of this model is the ability to store electricity in the form of hydrogen to run generators during times of low energy production or peak demand. It will require a total restructuring of the grid but it's the only way forward if we are going to get off the fossil fuel bandwagon. Once that is refined, wind, tidal, biodigesters, you name it can produce almost all the electricity they want.
