A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.
Regardless of whether the floor is approved by the FIA or not, what I like is that Ferrari are taking a much more bold approach to this year's championship. The past few years have proved that it is the teams that are willing to innovate (DDD, EBD) who are most likely to succeed. Sure it could backfire like Renault's forward exhausts but being conservative hasn't helped Ferrari achieve any success either. The last two years have shown just how high Red Bull have set the bar and that it will require Ferrari or any other team to push the envelope in every aspect of car design, to prevent them from winning their third successive championship.
It seems there is some confusion in the thread about "simulation".
Cfd , strategy simulation and driving simulator are three very distant fields, requiring different specialties.
As per ferrari, it seems Martin works on strategy simulation as he did in rbr; Delli Colli (ex massa track engineer IIRC) is in charge of the driving simulator (anybody knows where did Fainello go?).
Probably Fainello retains the role of head of performance research.
CFD is owned by Larsson, who was taken from sauber to replace Luciano Mariella, who had built the department from scratch in 1998 and had been head of cfd since.

@ charlygp That's a good idea, the problem is that there are many pieces to be redesigned, that if it would be a full-fledged F2012B

@ F1DavidR Yes, it is a handicap. It would require the last tests to prove it, but I think if there is much benefit to risk

@ F1DavidR What had already worked perfectly, if he thinks they must have found something in the CFD study quickly.

Jonathan Neale to @ f1enigma confirms that Budkowski only took a sabbatical but will not go to Ferrari, McLaren again.
There seems to be some pretty detailed speculation here - could all be nonsense of course, I guess we'll see in a few months time.
Tunnels... could they be trying to do what I was thinking – heating air in tunnels using the exhaust coiled round it/the engine/floor etc and pushing that hot gas into the diffuser rather than the exhaust.

Exactly i think on that one month ago when i heard something about some sort of tunels in the floor (or strange upper floor arangement)... ANd right now i spet by step draw 3d model how that could look like...

This are some interesting rumors but in the end we will see how the floor looks like if car stops on the track durring testing. Quite some of new Ferrari employees are specialists for composite materials so there could be some interesting solutions.
List of new employee's at Scuderia Ferrari:
Ioannis Veloudis -- CFD
Giacomo Tortora -- Aerodynamics
Lawrence Hodge -- Aerodynamics
Rupad Darek -- Simulation studies/Aerodynamics
Jonathon Heal -- Composites/stress Engineer
Marcin (Martin) Budkowski --Head of Aero at McM (not confirmed)
Neil Martin -- Research
Nick Jefferies --aerodynamics
Nigel Leaper -- composites
Doesnt this rumour about the floor, sound like the surface cooling idea from Brabham on the BT46? Smaller radiators = less drag and more flow to the diffuser.

That would be a very interesting packaging layout for sure.

And dont forget beacuse i heard also in dember some rumors abaout Rory reintergration of venturi efect...
Maybe ferrari will suck the head out of engine area throw air chanles toward rear of the car to seal side of difuozor (ground efect)...
that idea bodhered me the whole preseason...hmm when i look on the rumors and conect together that could be the solution...
