it's a fluff piece.

All Button said is he was surprised he was 2 seconds slower per lap than Ric, and it surprised him ric passed him in turn 11.

What they didn't mention was that button was on harder tires, and that they have no idea what fuel load rbr was running, or even what type of running they where doing.

Gotta disappoint you again mate, they did mention both things:
" Ganz vergleichen ließen sich die Leistungen der beiden Autos aber nicht. Hinter der Spritmenge stand noch ein Fragezeichen. "Außerdem war er auf weichen Reifen, ich auf medium", analysiert Button. "Das hat sicher etwas ausgemacht. Vor allem bei den etwas kühleren Temperaturen am Nachmittag."

Yes, they mentionned all that in the article I posted above too. Button looks genuinly impressed although he knows that fuel levels might be different and that RIC had softer tires. Obviously it's too early to judge the performance levels, but the interview is just interesting.

apparently my translator murdered it, but IMO it's still a fluff article to make Vettel/RBR fans feel good.

Jenson button:
Q: Were you surprised by the Red Bull’s performance today?
JB: Not really, because I think if that car goes round it will be quick - it’s just getting it around. Ricciardo was running on soft tyres and I was running on medium, which makes quite a difference. So my guess is that if they can complete a race distance they will be competitive. We are quicker on the straight line and I am sure they know that. We so far were concentrating on driveability - something we definitely didn’t have last year. Now we’ve got that. To be fair, putting downforce on that car is not the easiest thing, but it is easier than building in driveability with downforce. I am not worried about where we are - we do need more downforce, but it is coming!

Slight tangent, but I like this quote:
"Not many people will say 'we are ready' with five days of testing. If you go to the World Cup in football and they changed the ball, and they changed the size of the court, and they gave you five days to use that ball, you would want to have more days and more experience."

Interesting analyses of driving styles and car stability by Peter Windsor:

No extended time until engine freeze, no 3 races with double points and 2-3 teams applying for the free slots:

Btw. Windsor mentions a blinking red light which only lights up if the battery is empty/malfunctioning (at the back of the car).
Does anyone have more information on this? I'm hearing this for the first time... :wtf:

In the one turn he was watching, not mention the lap times aren't that spectacular.

Marko told AMuS that RBR are changing a lot of parts and try to get Vettel ready before noon.

Also Rosberg is said to be delayed till 11 or 12 due to an engine change.

Local or German (CET) time?

Local time of course. German time would be a real disaster. Now they are reporting that RBR might start around 11.
