Red Bull RB12 TAG-Heuer

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Concave diffusers have been used for many years.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

They used it (the whole) 3rd day of test 2. I think they tried e.g. malaysia-spec.
On the last day, they used the tighter one again.

The Malaysian GP is on 2nd of october though. But yes, probably a hot-weather spec engine cover.

Oh, forgot the malaysian GP has been pulled back compared to previous years.

They also moved the tire temperature sensor. It's incorporated into the metal wing support/adjuster in one and suspended above everything by metal rods in the other.

I think you are wrong here. The tire sensors are still in the rear mirrors. There is no way you can attach all the cabling that is needed into/on the frontwing cascades.

Then what are the sensors that multiple teams run on the outer edges of their FWs? My assumption has always been they are thermal sensors for the front tires. It was also an assumption that the sensors may be wireless?

Afair they all are attached to a more structural part of the wing and not on the tiny upper cascades. That's a huge difference. Also the upper cascades are still flexible for nearly all teams. Imho it does not make sense to mount a sensor to such part of the wing. Those metal parts (now nicely shaped for better aero) are simply for quick/easy adjustments to the frontwing during race.

Red bull is now the only team on the grid (and manor, but lets leave them out of this) not following a "traditional" mercedes-like heavy outwash front wing approach.

Packaging under the body is amazing. 3D CAD does not achieve that. Well organized people working together achieves that.

Also impressive that despite the extremely clean and tight rear end, RB actually have the shortest wheelbase on the grid. That from the excellent 2016 Comparison thread.
