The only, and most definitely only reason the Scots don't like England is because Scotland are crap. England have always been there-or-thereabouts, in the top 10 in the world. Scotland rarely make it to world cups. If Scotland were similar in quality to England, there wouldn't be any of this hysterical jealousy that we sadly see.

All of the above can be applied to any other hysterically jealous home nation.

I mildly agree that 1966 is talked about too much. However, there aren't that many nations who have won the world cup, and to be in the elite group of countries that have is a huge achievment. If Scotland had won it (what a funny image! so funny because it will never happen) then there would be the same patriotism shown by the Scots.

I must apologise for any bitter comments I have made towards the other home nations of the UK. But we all know who's responsible for the origination of this bitterness. Englishmen will not be cussed you see.

Actually, Scotland had better players than England in 1966, just for various reasons it never came together.

But seeing as this is an F1 forum, as a Scot I feel I must mention a few more names and dates...ahem hem hem:

1963/5, Jimmy Clark, Scottish sheep farmer wins F1 world championship, twice (against popular belief he was not in the fastest car with the Lotus, the Ferraris and BRMs were often quicker!)

1969/71/73, Clarks protoge, Jackie Stuart gets a hatrick, something no English driver ever achieved! Older brother Jimmy competed in a race too.

Innes Ireland, Scottish Military officer and engineer, raced alongside Clark in the early 60s with much sucess, (1 win, 4 podiums) amusingly at one race the Welsh resident was presented with an Irish flag.

Tom Walkinshaw, born in Midlothian, raced and owned TWR, the company running Listers in Le Mans and the Arrows at the end of their F1 career. His Jaguar sports car team also won Le Mans twice as well as 3 world championships. His team won eleven of eleven races in the British Saloon Car Championship in a Rover!!!

Alan McNish from Dumfries won Le Mans on his second attempt and has been victorious at Sebring many times, hes had many good results in endurance racing, heading Audis new R10 project! His 1 year F1 career fo Toyota was cut sadly short as he missed the last race in Suzuka when he went so fast (and crashed) he split through 3 tyre barriers at 130R!!!

Colin McRae, hey can't miss him out, 1995 WRC champion and always competitive up to his last season, holds the record for second most rally victories and always spectacular to watch, earning himself the unfortunate name, 'Mc-Crash' His farther Jimmy was, like him a British Rally Championship winner, along with brother Alistair, both WRC regulars.

David Coulthard, the hamlet of Twynholm produced the successor of legend Ayrton Senna, should have won many more races than the increadable 13 he has and a world championship to boot, out raced and outclassed Englishman Button at montreal on Sunday.

You wanted to play dirty!

lol I never doubted scotland's motorsport ability...

Were it not for some/most of Scotland's feelings towards England and our football team in particular, I would have no issues with these scottish people. I can't guarantee it, but if it were Scotland in England's position, I'd have nothing but respect and support for them. I might even go as far as buying a scotland shirt hehe.

Why can't we all be friends eh!

Well, seeing as we agree that Scotland is good at motorsport and England is OK(ish) at football, fine, truce.

Sounds like the England team today doesn't it?

Some supreme names, some of the world's elite players...yet somehow a bunch of butchers from Lictenstien can cause us (unessecary) hassle!

We have a serious problem with getting 11 great players to play as one great team!

Yez don't have 11 great players, only about 4 or 5.

The 2 Coles, Rooney and Gerrard. The rest are criminally over-rated.

Hargreaves is good, probably the best of the rest, but he never gets played in his natural position.

LOL! Hargreves is useless.

I laugh at how people under-estimate David Beckham. (all he can do is take free-kicks, he only was signed by Real Madrid for sales purposes and his marketability in the far east)

Its all crap from people who are jealous of the fact the man is worth millions, successful, comes back after being the most hated man in English sport (after the 1998 sending off) has a wife who's also minted and some rekon is very gorgeous (each to their own), and has three kids and a happy life.

The man isn't captain of the English football team for no-reason. And hasn't been the the starting 11 for nearly a decade for no reason, and the fact that he is the ONLY english player EVER to have scored in 3 world cups is also quite an achievement.

When we are down, performing badly only ONE man is almost everywhere on the pitch, leading by example, and that is our captain David Beckham.

If you look at the line up:
Robinson (iffy - but not particularly bad)
A. Cole (great)
R. ferdinand (great)
J. Terry (great)
G. Neville (v.good....i dont care what u say u dnt keep that position for so long for nothing)
Becks (great as discussed above)
Lamps (great - altho this WC he has been dissapointing)
Gerrard (nuff said)
J. Cole (finally he's being less selfish and USING his skill - great player)
Rooney (great)
Owen (well....okay he seems to lack confidence in front of goal again....but look at the amount of space he made for Rooney in Euro 2004, that goes un noticed too often)

We haven't got 11 world elite players like say the Brazilians do. But very few teams do. At the end of the day, England have always been there-or-thereabouts in the world rankings, one of only 7countires to have won the world cup, with the ability to stay in the top ten rankings since then.

I'm in a worst situation....rtp (the F1 broadcaster in Portugal) hasn't been transmitting qualifying on a open channel (non cable) since last year and the last 2 gps haven't been transmitted! I've been asking a friend to tape the races so I can watch them later!

The strange thing is that rtp isn't transmitting the world cup!

For the Brits who are missing quali and race coverage, ITV4 has it live, channel 120.

They've broadcasted the last 20-minute session! Thank god.

Back to fooball now. I hope that France wins tonight and that Thierry Henry will find his way to the goal.

I'm glad that England lost. I really don't like the team. They have great players, but some of them are real pigs! (You saw Rooney's move  )
I'm not really a Portugal fan either, but I'm happy that they go on.
