Vettel went out on softs at the end of Q1 and then directly in the pits. What's the point of wasting set of softs? Probably will do 2 runs in Q2?
he was only 0.3s in clear in the end. that's with verstappen and perez out of quali. They probably wanted to cover all eventualites. He didn't do a flying lap on those softs i think so they should be OK for q3 first run.

Are we to believe that Renault are that close? If is it that Ferrari and Mercedes are just cruising around?

What I dont get is how Mercedes are 3-4 tenths slower in S1 compared to Renault, Ferrari ect. It has the slowest corners on the lap in there and Merc are mighty in the slow stuff.

Will Ferrari beat themselves because Vettel will not give as much tow to Leclerc as is perhaps the plan?
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

Vettel off the track on his first run there, also Kimi spinning off in front of Lewis must have put him off ?

What I don't get however - they all have two drivers. Instead of relying on other cars of other teams to tow them, why not simply do it yourself and concentrate on an optimal outlap?

Yeah , I think its just down to no one wanting to be the first pairing out, if you follow another team out , both your cars get a tow, Then all the shenanigans start and they all get mixed up.

So close between Ferrari and Merc, whoever gets the better tow will be on pole.

On the replay, i think Vettel was just on the line enough to make it okay. Very thin line though.
