Ferrari receives money from the proceeds of smoking nicotene.
This is sponsorship and is illegal.

Your turn.
Without knowing the exact details of the possible agreement between Ferrari and Marlboro there is no point jumping to conclusions to support individual adgendas (i.e. mindless Ferrari bashing at every opportunity or Ferrari support).

So I would assume that all of you guys were equally upset when for decades tobacco companies sponsored F1?

I am not an attorney, but I do employ a few, I would imagine that it wouldn't be hard to prove that the car or team is not sponsored by or advertising for Marlboro. Remeber, common sense is rarely used inside a courtroom.

I also read that the Marlboro deal was basically a VIP/Executive package allowing them access to Ferrari and entertain their execs/guests. That could easily be used in court as the reason for the money.

I don't know how the exact law reads (anybody have a link?), but in the states you simply can not advertise the tobacco product, there is no law against contributions (to politicians, race teams, concerts, car shows, etc).

I guess all politicians who take tobacco lobby money should be fined as well?

Once again, why not solve the real problem, the product. If people were serious about all this the product would simply be banned. I don't smoke, nor would I ever, I am to smart for that. I don't need a race car to tell me to smoke or a govt to tell me not to smoke, yet as long as the product is legal, I see the ban on advertising it silly.

There is no room for logic in a thread like this. Cant you see this is a bash the FOTA, BIg tobaco, and red cars thread.

Yes Sean but you are using the American system as a comparison and we are all well aware just what a joke that is. Ask everyone what they think about the banking side of it, if you can stop them laughing for long enough.
Ferrari receiving money from tobacco profits is against the law.
What corruption America allows to be called its legal system has nothing to do with it.

Do you have inside knowledge of Ferrari's agreement with Marlboro or are you just guessing?

Given the amount of cash and the parties involved I would expect that some top lawyers have made sure that there is nothing illeagal in the agreement. It'll be all in the wording.

It will not matter a jot andrew. Now the public know they will not let go until the money gets taken by the courts.
Ferrari can thank Montezemolo for this.
Oh and some of us do know more about the background to this than others Tiffo.

Well if you know the background provide details otherwise there is not point saying you know the background.

How can they thank LDM for this?

I reckon most of the public couldn't care less. I certainly don't and I don't know anyone who does.

Ferrari have stated the bar code is not a trademark for Marlboro. They have just called it a design.

The exact same design appears on the Ducatis, so it can't be a Ferrari trademark.

Since the barcode isn't owned by Ferrari, Marlboro, or Ducati, I am going to register it under my screen name.

Scuderia Ferrari Shell Giblet has a nice ring to it. Luca, I would like some pitpasses for the Montreal race, and an Italian super model or two for each arm.
