+ also you need to remember if they did it its basically free advertising for Marlboro (as everyone knows what it represents) so it won't happen. Ron Dennis would be the last person so almost give out free advertisement on his car.

Seems a bit early for the orange fetishists to break cover, they're not normally out of hibernation until late January.

There's absolutely no indication of an orange McLaren next year, it's just as likely as a yellow Ferrari on the basis that either team might randomly pick a colour from the previous century that has nothing to do with the current sponsors/shareholders.

To be fair, those designs were made by and voted on by fans.

There is no car color decided on at the moment because Ron Dennis is in a fight to stay in control of his company.
He is hitting every bank, house and pub to find a sponsor. He keeps promising the other shareholders he will and they keep give him another due date.

So if he doesn't find a major sponsor then that leaves Honda colors(white and red) and Mobil colors(blue and red)

Those designs were badass! I was eager for more in 2012 but sadly they killed it. Hmm, just thinking about the art styles on the those overalls; If Mclaren did an "art car" livery for different races in 2015 that would be awesome!

Also it seems Honda is tired of this situation and might backout of their longterm contract if it isn't solved before the Christmas break.

What I'm hearing is only Dennis wants Magnussen(it seams he ties in with Dennis's last hope for a major sponsor).

My source says the fighting behind close doors is complex.(more about control of Mclaren than who will be in seat 2)

Just to be clear, I liked some -not all- of the overalls too. Maybe I made a too big a joke of it, but it just was to reinforce astracrazy's point.

And yes, the chrome-ish paint job got boring. Something new would certainly be appreciated.

Well, Mclaren originally ran papaya orange,
they ran white-red, they ran white-yellow,
they ran grey-black-red
they ran silver-black-red
they ran silver

despite the fact there has been more non-colors than actual colours,
there's still the general truth that Mclaren themselves don't genuinly have a 'color'.
Ferrari is red and allways will be red.

Obviously, for marketing's sake, Mclaren will prefer to be recognisable on tv and in the crowd.
Mclaren didn't particularly like HRT's color and Sauber's colors in the past as they themselves stated
they sometimes get 'confused' with these teams. As hard as i found that to believe (it shocked me) -
it was in an interview and iirc Whitmarsh replied to a BBC interview - I'll take their words for it.

That means then that Mclaren would prefer to be easily spotted. I'd say the past years grey-silver was
very simple solution. However, with Mercedes now running the greyish colour, an untrained eye can
have trouble seeing the difference between a merc and a mclaren.

This leads me to believe Mclaren will be eyeing a livery change in the not-too-distant future, perhaps
as early as 2015 since the change from Mercedes engines to Honda engines will bring a good start for
more then just engine change.

Now is white really a Honda colour? If we look at the earthdreams livery, then clearly it's not. the White
in the Honda team before was due to the BAR Tobacco brand colours.

Mclaren in the 80's and early 90's was white-red because of the Marlboro sponsorship, and it was easily
recognisable.

Would Mclaren go in 2015 for a white livery? Who knows, but they run the risk of getting confused with Williams
now. Blue runs the risk of RedBull confusion. Keeping gray (perhaps they can't even use it anymore due to Merc
contract issues, who knows) doesnt seem like a parmount given anymore either. Red? Never. Yellow is too remiscent
of Renault.

I'd say we could actually have a greater chance of seeing Orange Mclarens in 2015 then any of the former years.
And the colour of the teamwear doesn't mean a thing, they can wear total whites and still have an orange car,
just as they can have an all white car and all orange teamwear.

This does look cool though

Orange Mclarens just look awesome

but still, anything goes.

how about a GULF Mclaren Honda Livery?

We'll see.

I just think it'd be better if we finally gotten something to know about the 2015 Drivers.

The conventional wisdom is that a major sponsor pays maybe $30-50 million. This is for a genuinely independent major sponsor, not a company like Infinity that gets told by its Renault parent to pay "X" to Red Bull to support the Renault engine program. An unaffiliated sponsor will only pay for the actual marketing value, or at least the perceived actual marketing value.

A team that does their own car and engine will spend at least $300-500 million, or ten times as much as a typical primary sponsor. Front running team, new mega-engine supplier, Fernando, etc. And McLaren can't even get a sponsor to cover 10% of the costs. So the era of independent sidepod sponsors is over.

The only people left are Zillionaires looking for a hobby, and car company CEOs with egos and weak boards of directors. In the long run this will not fill the grid because there is not enough room at the top to satisfy 10 teams who are funded only by ego. The top can only support success for 1 or 2 egos/teams, not 10.

Now we have Ferrari (ego unto itself), Red Bull (Dietrich), Mercedes (Dieter), and McLaren (Ron Dennis and Honda fueled by obsessive emotional attachment to past successes). Of these four F1 mega-forces, probably two will win championships over the next four years (2015-2018). Do you think all four entities will commence spending for 2019? Obviously not. This is a delicious experiment because we know something has to give well in advance of it giving.

All of the Honda cars, not counting the two Earth Dream disasters, were white with red. This dates back to their initial run. Even the RA106 was white with red (the car before the Earth Dreams). It was also used by Super Aguri in white with red livery.

As for Honda engined cars, they were white with red as BAR and white with red for several years with Mclaren. The rest were a toss-up.

Let's not forget though that Jordan GP were the works Honda team briefly in the 90's (I'm sure Eddie won't let us forget next season in the BBC coverage..!!) and they didn't have white or red cars...
Favourite driver: Lando Norris
Favourite team: McLaren

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️
