with the publicity around it, the cost cap and everything it looks like the perfect racing series. Havent really looked much into it, but I am looking forward to the series.

Yes indeed. I'm pretty excited. Just hope electric formulas aren't too boring to watch on track lol

fuel limited spec cars? Sounds exhilarating. This had all of the possibilities to make it a fun to watch series and none it made it through to the final design. We got a spec series with no name drivers no one will watch, instead of a real innovation series to push modern road tech to its limits. After the first few races every team will have dialed in there simulators and all will enter with the same strategy except those with drivers who got in because of money or race or gender instead of talent, they will try something that will put them in the lead for a few laps for some media attention until the pit stops pan out.

Sound of the Formula E car:

"...and there, very much in flames, is Jacques Laffite's Ligier. That's obviously a turbo blaze, and of course, Laffite will be able to see that conflagration in his mirrors... he is coolly parking the car somewhere safe." Murray Walker, San Marino 1985

I'm with you... it all seems rather boring... I'd rather watch one car like the Drayson Lola attack some overall lap records than watch a whole grid of spec Formula E cars....

There was a series probably over 10 years ago at least in North America. It was mostly college teams they had a spec open wheel chassis and trans they would build there own Lead acid battery packs and drive trains motors and controllers. I think they only ran ovals. They had to have non students drive them due to liability I want to say they had to be USAC licence holders. For love of all that is google I cant find it. I'm pretty sure I watched them race at Rockford Illinois. I want to say they were called Lighting bolts or something like that. Does any one remember it?

Ah-ha I found it looks like it started in 1994 I must have seen the IRP race.

Fans, whether watching live or at home, will also be able to interact before, during and after the race through Formula E's social media channels. As well as following the official Championship channels, you can also check out what the teams and drivers have been saying or get involved with competitions and even vote for your favourite driver who will receive an extra 'Push-to-Pass' - meaning you could directly affect the outcome of the race!

Bonkers!!
Formula One's fundamental ethos is about success coming to those with the most ingenious engineering and best .............................. organization, not to those with the biggest budget. (Dave Richards)

The gimmicks certainly are not how I projected such a series.

I haven't read the entire topic, but I just wanna add some things to the discussion:

- To solve a quick battery reload, Tesla has been experimenting with replaceable batterypacks. If developed further, you might be looking at a 10sec pitstop. Which to me sounds pretty reasonable.

- Williams has been working on a magnetic flywheel. It's been used in the Porsche 911 GT3R Hybrid and 918 RSR Concept, and in the latter it looks awesome. No, the future of awesome. It's called an MLC flywheel.

- I also wonder if those flywheels can be used as gyroscopes for added stability. Imagine braking to charge the flywheels, using them as gyroscope through the corner, and power out the corner with the energy left.
