Was that like a youngest ever pole position record?
Yep, except there's a miracle in future races, today offered his only chance at it.

Seb hold's the record at 21 years 72 days.
Max is 21 years 28 days old today, by next season he will be way over the mark.
Does Charles have enough days to take the record at Melbourne?
Nah, he's gonna pass the 72 day mark in February.

Considering Vet has to win at all costs, I'd expect him to go elbows out into turn 1. He'll no doubt have the greatest straight line speed advantage but he'll have to pass a Merc and a Bull who will both have tows. Maybe something like Spa where Ocon was on the inside but now it's Vet. Should be really exciting.
No chance. With the amount of criticism Vettel has been under and his position with the team, I'm expecting him to keep his nose very clean. Ferrari still are in contention for the WCC, the WDC is lost. He has little to no chance to win the race tomorrow and even on the off chance he does, Hamilton has to pretty much DNF. Assuming he does, there are another 2 races where he will have to repeat that.

I'm expecting Vettel to tiptoe behind the RedBull, just as Hamilton will. Having said that, I could see both RedBull crashing on the first lap. Max didn't look happy and I think he will be super aggressive. Dan will be too, he is just driving for himself and his own win. The gloves are off.
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

That record is the least safest record in F1.

Just a lucky timing in a rainy session can make even a mild field car driver the youngest pole sitter.

Well... For wunderkid like Verstappen (he is treated like one). He had 3 years and didn't make it. But grid is getting younger. next year 3 drivers will have a chance (Stroll, Norris, Russell only first few races)

The whole qualifying was crap, we had the same problems as FP2, the engine braking is not like I wanted and rear locking in the car. We tried to make the best of it, I thought we had enough but it's still good to be second.
- Max Verstappen

I suspect the Red Bull's will be taking off from the start line like they's got the license to kill.
Vettel and Lewis might have to pick their way through Syria style level's of rubble.

Impressive stuff from Ferrari I have to say. Obviously they're losing too much time in the corners. Is Merc really running so much more wing? They're already 6 km/h down on the finish line.

You nailed it. You either take wing off to fly down the straights, or add it to help in the corners.

Since Ferrari are relatively weaker in the slower corners, they've been trying to compensate by running less wing. In the really slow corners, however, it all comes down to mechanical grip.

Interesting to me that Mercedes chose to use their older, Spec 2 PUs this weekend. Seems like a pretty conservative play.

Bottas, however, had to switch to the Spec 3 for quali.

Expect a huge gap to begin opening between the top six cars and the next four around lap 14.

The top six cars all start on ultra's which could do about 22 laps during FP, while the next four to them start on hypersofts which did about 13 laps in FP before falling over.

If cars from Ocon down (11th) start on the ultra's, then we can expect those starting in positions 7 to 10 to have their races messed up by cars on older, but longer lasting tyres; allowing the top six to bolt into the distance. Assuming no safety cars (or rain), of course.

Thank you Daniel. I’m glad that Max didn’t get it.
