Sweet lord, who could possibly compare with this, I wonder what the Mercedes SLR line looks like?

I know the line from another OEM in that area: not comparable..
not the SLS:
The chassis and alunminium bodyshell of the car are produced by Magna Steyr in Graz in Austria and the 6.3-litre power unit comes from AMG in Affalterbach, Germany. The car is assembled by hand on the lines at Sindelfingen.

Surely the SLS photos show the build tables for the prototype.
They look much the same as those used by McLaren for the SLR prototype.
The McLaren photos are of production builds.

The crash picture is probably Sheik Wally of money bags land.

The reflector in the rear quarter panel looks like a piece is broken off when you can't see it clearly. Damn US DOT regulations!

They were probably doing hot weather testing in other parts of Arizona as well. A few hours drive in either direction of Flagstaff and it's a desert environment (43ºC/110°+ F with typically low humidity levels).

Engines have a great time with the a/c on full blast in 120ºF weather come late summer.

This Arizona testing is most pro-active thinking on MacLaren's part, when many 12C are likely to end up in another desert?

my collegues doing testing in a well known valley would stand on the door sills of the car when looking up their laptops to avoid getting their feet burned fom the soaring heat coming up from under the car.. you need to test there,no question. But Dubai etc is as worse.so of course this is best practise on a manufacturers side ,although I´m not sure if all supercar manufacturers do realise and fork out the money to do so.I know of at least one who seems to be content to drive at the Nordschleife only.

Gosh, that car is so much better looking in white. I thought the bronze one looked worringly bland.

Autogyro - The SLR crash was in Qatar in Jul 08, the 22 year old diver died. I used Tineye.com to track down the source of the pictures.

The intention, as far as I am aware, is to use the old SLR production line (or the at least space that was occupied by it) for the initial run of customer cars prior to the "factory" being completed. This space is currently being used for the prototypes so they know they can produce customer cars in that space.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

Yes, they had already done the first batch of hot weather testing. This was a test at 9200 ft elevation.

For any of you skiers, these pics were taken at Snowbowl.

I think the c/f bodywork was produced in Portsmouth before being shipped to McLaren's Woking base for final assembly.
