That's their secret state-of-the-art driver originating from Roswell, NM.

If this is really a model of the car it would be one of the shortest on the grid. Using the FIA specified maximum height, rear overhang and legality plank dimensions for calibration I would guess that the wheelbase is around 3.12m and the total length about 4.89m. The wheelbase appears to be shorter than the Mclaren, Sauber, Ferrari and Renault.

If the images above are to scale, there seems to something very wrong with the USF1 design, as displayed anyway?

There are some serious advantages to the shorter wheelbase if the suspension is designed appropriately. To me it looks like the front wheels are consderably farther back on that far than on the Ferarri. McLaren were experimenting with this at Valencia last year.

I don't think this shows anything wrong with the design, quite the contrary, if they did it right a short car has huge dynamic advantages.

Only this is not a minor discrepancy, judging by the above images, the USF1 car has a wheelbase some 300 mm shorter than the new Ferrari, where could they possibly have found a full foot-length, while giving room for a 2010 fueltank?

Those two images aren't scaled quite correcetly. The F10 takes on a slight angle, while the USF1 image is in direct profile.

Either way, the USF1 wheelbase will be among the shorter measures on the grid. Interesting times!

Should be easy to scale the USF1 drawing very accurately- you know the wheel diameter is 13". It's going to be hard to compare a completely perspectiveless drawing against a photo though- the perspective is making the Ferrari look longer than it really is.

Also note how low the rear end is- compare the height at the rear engine cover to the top of the rear wheel on both (granted the USF1 drawing is at a very low ride height). The horizontal line at the bottom trailing edge of the fin is a rules line- you can see it on the Ferrari as well- look at the relative distance from that line to the bodywork covering the gearbox. That rear suspension packaging has allowed them to push everything forward and really make it small back there.

Regardless of your opinion of the project, you have to give them some respect for publishing stuff like this. They said they were not going to hide all the technology, and they have been true to that. As fans of the technical side of the sport, this stuff should be like crack.

If you look at the original in photoshop, you can tell that the splice is more than just a misalignment - there's actually some missing car in there. Also, the pic is squished a bit horizontally. That, or USF1 is using oval wheels.

Here's the best I could do trying to fix both of those. If I did a good job, then here's what we get - the wheelbase is only slghtly shorter than the F10, about half a wheel width. Driver placement is about the same; and the nose is a tad bit longer...

Great job pup, half a rim-dia, that's like 160 mm? But I still can't get over that supermodel-looking driver, Danica?

And that Jesse Jackson xhaust, I wonder?

No, Jesse Jackson... Rainbow Coalition... actually a clever comment. The reason you would do that in the model, though, is so you can visually tell which primary is which as you're doing the routing and designing the collector.

Reminds me of a day in my office when I had a carpenter there to adjust a door, when he noticed a 100 mm gauge block
on my desk. Carpenter picks up the shiny piece and politely inquires as to what the object might be.

- It's a 100 mm gauge block, says I.
- What's that?
- It's a piece we keep in order to remember xactly what 100 mm is.

Carpenter takes up his folding rule and looks carefuly.
- I'll be darned!
