it’s all about track position, because passing through dirty air is near impossible. alonso kept the gap to hamilton while having to defend two quicker cars. not sure how good the mclarens are here, but if fernando qualifies in top 5, we can expect good points. if not, then p7 or p8 at best.

Apparently there is floor damage on Alonso's car.

Many corrections on the live on board lap. Does not wonder me that they have high tyre wear.

Really bad? 1 tenth slower than before…
Perfect job with such an unpredictable car.

The bane of Alo's career has been that most of the time, he's always had a car 0.5s slower than the fastest car. :(

I think he gave up a bit of s1 time to improve later

Anyway what a driver, 42 yo

Edit: he said that he lost 2 tenths on s1

Alonso said he lost two tenths in the first sector with a snap and almost aborted the lap. To then finish p3 5tenths behind pole shows he had an amazing rest of the lap. He’s said they’ve made set up changes to hopefully help race pace. Fingers crossed but at least for today he answers back in the best possible way on track! What a hero!

Add to that track evolution then it becomes as Alonso said 2 tenths in shortest sector.

He started the lap with some purple mini sectors, then obviously the snap. But as I wrote before, that’s the behavior of this car. Or as Schmidt says: The car is on razors edge and you can not drive like this in the race, only in Q and only ALO.

They just need further updates to balance the car, only then tyre wear will be ok.

The car was definitely lacking some pace in the Sprint, but Alonso did a stellar job as per usual! Quali was also so close, I wonder how close it would of been without the small snap in the first sector - great last sector :D

Hopefully the small tweaks of the setup will foresee us a better result for tommorow, second row!

Im sure he would have had double digit world championships if he had received cars more according to his talent. That with 40+ years old he is still at this level is unprecedented and shows that the pool of talent at his peak was immense.

Unfortunately the tyre wear still there, but much less thanks for the new floor. The positive side of this year, that the upgrades seems to work as they want to but still they struggled to get the maximum from in it. Honestly the difference in 2024 between the front runners is not really the aero efficiency, but the tyre *efficiency*.
