Holy F. Isn't that an outright lap record?

No the lap record belongs to the fastest lap done "during" the race which is why Michael Schumacher is still the record holder set in 2004
OUTRIGHT does not equal fastest lap. And outright lap record is 1.23.5.

Well, people (F1 rule setters) asking for entertainment..? There you go :D I laughed a lot frankly, so I guess that qualifying worked :D:D:D

I wonder whose idea was this :D

Wolf said it was "rubbish".

hahaha

Hamilton was great though. Good job from him.

Instead of having the TV cameras point at parked cars, they should have been pointed at the idiots who dreamed this rubbish up and watch them squirm for 6 minutes as Q3 counted down.

Fair enough. Still, only 0.3 off.

Although I guess a fair bit of that is down to the softer compound tyres. 2.5 seconds faster than last year isn't pure development.

Well, it started well, then became a farce at the end.

Only real good thing was seeing McLaren in the Top 3 briefly before going into conservation mode. Honestly, this problem has been around since 2012. Pirelli should give every team an extra set of softs/super softs specifically for qualifying and then have everyone start on fresh tyres for the race. That was a waste and told us nothing on the running order. Ferrari could've been in the 1:23's, but we'll never know because, well, tyres and not enough time to refuel.

Well, the new qualifying system works perfectly well if all drivers are driving the same car, not in F1 #epicfail

The rule setters are at it again. . . trying so hard to make the F1 as bad as possible. Seriously, the people sitting together in one room and introduce such nonense have absolutely no clue how to satisfy the people.

Haven't seen such a predictable und boring Qualifying in a long time. And I'm afraid that we won't see any changes in that regard. Hopefully, they will take responsibility and admit that this system failed.

Maybe this could work if the teams were given a number of sets of tires just for quali?

Q1 will be really intense once the slower teams figure out that they need to send their drivers out well before the time runs out.
Q2 would be ok with dedicated quali tires.
Q3 should be put to sleep, keep that as last year.

Haas really impressed me, Grosjean was on a flyer when he ran out of time. Looks like they are already on par with Sauber, if not faster.

What a farce! the teams that didnt go out for a final run chose not to go out not because they didnt think they could improve but because another run would have left them no fresh sets of supersofts.
on an improving track no less.
so if you dont get a clear lap in any off the sessions with the fragile supersofts you have now worn out 2 sets per session because they are only good for one lap so there goes all your supersofts just qualifying.
i'm pretty sure the Ferraris would have closed that gap if they had went out for a second run ... on to the race now i guess hopefully the race makes up for this farce

Williams broken a technical regulation (not submitting a document for suspension settings). Probably a fine if anything?

They could just bring back the old 1 hour free running quali.

Or even the 1 lap shoot-out.
