2016 Japanese Grand Prix - Suzuka, 07-09 October

For ease of use, there is one thread per grand prix where you can discuss everything during that specific GP weekend. You can find these threads here.

About the manoeuvre, I think it's a bit ridiculous that Hamilton didn't try to take the corner, chose the safety road, and Merc is now complaining that VES pushed him off. This thread will probably result in an endless debate on what moving in the braking zone entails, but both HAM and VES were in full control and HAM just chose the wrong side if you ask me, see Hulkenberg.
Even so, the penalty system to me seems to be working in favour of the spectacle instead of the rule-book and Lewis needs the points for a close season finale. It's anyone's guess for me.

He took the escape road because he ran out of grip on the outside, you can see the puff of smoke from his tyre as he's about to lock up, instead of wrecking the tyres he chose to use the escape road. He actually did the little chicane in the escape road which I'm sure is what they were told to do in the drivers briefing, there's nothing to penalise here.

Max's move is on the limit, but IMO not the worst that he's done, what he did to Kimi in Spa was much much worse. I don't think the Mercedes protest is really going to come of anything. The only way Max is going to learn is lessons is when it turns in to an accident unfortunately.

"There is no protest from either myself or @MercedesAMGF1. One idiot said we have but it's not true. Max drove well, end of. We move on,"
=D> He acts a bit silly on thursday sometimes, but no doubts about his sportsmanship..

There is no protest from myself. Just heard the team had but I told them it is not what we do. We are champions, we move on. End of!

Mercedes have withdrawn their appeal against Verstappen's defence against Hamilton at the chicane in Japan

Lewis knows Max wouldn't get a time penalty so no point in wasting energy over it.

They still had a qualy boost. The engine had a slightly thicker oil to keep the engine reliable is the only difference.
Source on the fact that they did indeed have qualy boost please.

Was something wrong with Ham's car? Lap 41 he was 2.8 seconds behind Ves, and I'm finding it hard to believe in 12 laps with race mapping and championship on the line, he could not find a way around. Or is red bull now that fast? Nice work from Ves, close but nice. Good sportsmanship from Ham. =D>

I didn't wake up early for the race. Just watched the 45 min. highlights on sky. Not sure, but i think Hamilton has now dropped more points on botched starts than thru mechanical mishaps. I suppose going back to have a look, the math could be done if one was so inclined.

Red bull had good enough pace at that point to keep hamilton behind.

Anyone else looking forward to 2017? I'm kind of a bit fed up with 2016 now. The WCC was a complete formality this year with Ferrari and Red Bull seeming further away than ever. The WDC has been close, but only on paper, there hasn't been a huge amount of on track action between the top 2, and it all looks decided now.

Several drivers are looking a bit fed up. Vettel, Alonso, Button (now leaving) and even Hamilton are starting to look fed up with the sport.
