First two years in F1 are generally considered rookie years.
Sprints are points paying races, so they still count, ask Maclaren if they matter.

And yeah, sprints award points. The drivers still don't care though, when they win one the overwhelming reaction is "Yeah it's nice to win or whatever, but it's just a sprint."
Rookie, inexperienced driver, same thing. The point is in the first two years of F1, drivers will get fairly lenient treatment by the teams and press.
Just look at Sargent, he showed no significant progression in his second year and got fired half way through. Teams expect second year drivers to still make mistakes, just not crash every weekend.
Oscar will be is in his 3rd full season this year, so he will be expected to perform every weekend. I fully expect he will.
